Today, Odd Fellows from across Southeastern Pennsylvania marched in the Malvern Memorial Parade.

In years past, Malvern Odd Fellows participated in the Memorial Parade regularly. With the help of Vincent Odd Fellows Lodge #762 IOOF , we revived that tradition last year and were determined to make an even stronger showing this year.

To help make that happen, we invited members of the Patriarchs Militant - the uniformed branch of the Odd Fellows - from Cantons Philadelphia #1 and Allentown #39. They answered the call and even brought reinforcements from IOOF Harmony & Lady Harmony Lodge Tamaqua, PA .

We also arranged a truck for those who preferred not to walk the entire route. Many participants wore Lodge and Encampment collars, making us more visible and, we hope, sparking curiosity about our Order. Brothers and Sisters carried newly printed brochures, ready to share information with anyone interested in learning more about Odd Fellowship.

One experiment was less successful: we brought a powerful speaker and tried playing historic Odd Fellows marches. Unfortunately, it could not compete with the noise of the parade and ended up entertaining only those riding in the truck and a few people nearby.

After the parade, we gathered at the Lodge for lunch, refreshments, and plenty of friendly conversation.

It was a hot day, and by the end most of us were tired - but also proud. Thanks to the efforts of Brothers and Sisters from several lodges, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows was once again well represented in the Malvern Memorial Parade.

Today, we participated in the Join Fair organized by the West Chester Public Library.

The event was a follow-up to the screening of "Join or Die", a documentary about civic engagement and the importance of joining community organizations. The library promoted the event and generously provided the venue, tables, refreshments, and snacks. A wide variety of groups participated, ranging from an embroidery club to the local Rotary.

We did our best to represent Odd Fellowship well. For the event, we designed and printed new brochures, created a slide presentation showcasing our activities, and brought a large monitor to display it. We were also preparing a table runner with our logo, but when it became clear that it would not arrive in time, Vincent Lodge came to the rescue by lending us a banner, which fit perfectly on the railing above our table. It was a wonderful example of cooperation and solidarity among Chester County lodges.

The event was also a fraternal debut for Brother Steve, who was initiated this spring. Friendly and outgoing, he quickly helped visitors feel welcome and contributed greatly to the success of the day.

We met many interesting people, shared information about Odd Fellowship, and made several new contacts. We left in good spirits - and immediately turned our attention to preparations for tomorrow's Memorial Parade in Malvern.

Recently, we came across a scanned copy of “Poems for Odd Fellows and Rebekahs” printed in 1898. One of the poems caught our attention, and we thought it would make a good song. So, as an experiment, we used AI to bring it to life in musical form.

We liked the result and wanted to share it with you.

Today, our Lodge was represented at the Odd Fellows Founders Day reenactment hosted by Independent Order of Odd Fellows New Brunswick #6 at the The Historic Village Inn - Englishtown, NJ.

The event offered a wonderful opportunity to step into history - from the authentic setting to a traditional roast dinner (with plenty to go around!) and a lively reenactment of the founding of Odd Fellowship in America.

One of the highlights was meeting Brothers and Sisters from New Jersey and Texas. The conversations were both friendly and informative, and it was a pleasure to connect with members who are well known in the Order.

During the event, we also shared a few AI-generated remixes of historic Odd Fellows songs. It’s exciting to see how modern tools can help bring old traditions back to life - even for those without a musical background.

The day was absolutely worth the drive. We are already looking forward to next year - and hope to attend in greater numbers.

The photographs were taken by Meredith Moore.

The township parade is coming up, so we put together a parade-themed AI remix of the 1923 song “He’s an Odd Fellow” by George Hunt.
Parade-style music pairs surprisingly well with these slightly self-congratulatory lyrics.
**This is a modern AI-generated interpretation.** We’ll post a link to the original recording in the first comment.

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Who is it that the whole world needs when everything goes wrong,
To wipe away the burning tears and fill the heart with song?
Who is the one whose noble deeds are writ on hist'ry's page,
The widow's hope, the orphan's help, the friend of youth and age?

[Chorus]
He's an Odd Fellow, an Odd Fellow,
No matter what your race or what your creed,
When you're down and out, in need,
You'll find that he's a friend indeed,
And when you're all flurried, all worried,
And looking for a brother tried and true,
See an Odd Fellow, an Odd Fellow,
And he will lend a hand to you.

[Verse 2]
Who is it that is sure to heed the cry of dire distress,
Who gives his all at mercy's call to bring back happiness?
Who cultivates affection's seeds the broken heart to bless,
The man who calls us brother's all, who is he, can you guess?

[Chorus]
