That moment you know it’s working: green grass where the crops used to be... and high cattle prices don’t hurt either 😂

Tony Gundermann’s full story, “Cows on Farm Ground, Making Grazing Work on Crop Acres” drops TOMORROW on the Ranch Stewards Podcast🎙️

At RSA, grasslands are at the heart of our conservation work.

That's why we're proud to share this campaign from America's Grasslands Coalition, an effort to help the public better understand all that grasslands do for us. The Coalition is a partnership of organizations working together to elevate the profile of America's grasslands and share the value of these iconic landscapes.

Grasslands are our working lands, underpinning America's economy and sustaining our communities. They support the livestock that feeds our nation with deep roots that clean the air and water we all rely on.

What a night in Billings!

Thank you to everyone who turned out to celebrate the future of Montana's working lands, and to hosts Taylor Brown, Jess Peterson and Alexis Bonogofsky.

It was a great chance to talk about RSA's work, our grassbank program, and how Dale and Janet Veseth's $22 million ranch gift will help shape the future of agriculture. RSA's Angel and Martin were proud to be there alongside Board President Conni French and board members Amber Smith and Leo Barthelmess!

Thank you to the Cody Cornwell for his 2025 Beef into Schools donation!

Cody Cornwell is a co-owner of Glasgow Stockyards in Glasgow, Montana, where he works alongside local livestock producers to market cattle and support the regional ranching community. Glasgow Stockyards has served northeastern Montana’s livestock industry since 1946.

Cody has demonstrated his commitment to local agriculture and youth by donating the first beef animal to Glasgow Beef Into Schools. His contribution helps provide students with locally raised beef while strengthening the connection between local ranchers, schools, and the community.

His generosity is an important step toward ensuring students can enjoy high-quality protein while learning about the agricultural community that supports them.

Some of Tony Gundermann’s farm ground just wasn’t pulling its weight in grain. So he started thinking, what if cows went out there instead? It took him a few years to find the right help, but he made it happen.

In this sneak peak, Tony sat down with Martin and Lauren of RSA to talk about how it all came together.

The full episode, “Cows on Farm Ground: Making Grazing Work on Crop Acres,” drops next Thursday on the Ranch Stewards Podcast.

Welcome to our newest team member!

Meet Tanya Funk, RSA's new Executive Assistant! A lifelong eastern Montanan, Tanya spent 34 years as a teacher and administrator at S**o School before retiring this June. She and her husband raise Red Angus cattle on their ranch north of S**o, and when she's not with her family (including three grandkids), you'll find her running, reading, or in the garden. Her new role with RSA brings together three things she loves: ranching, education, and community.

Welcome, Tanya!

It was a beautiful fall day at Hinman Angus Ranch last week.

192 Malta elementary students attended Malta Ag Days this year. The students rotated through stations that made compost, watched wheat turn into flour, learned how cattle help manage habitat, checked out an irrigation trailer, flew drones, and saw a rainfall simulator in action. Every station was about learning, but the kids were having so much fun they didn’t even notice.

Huge thanks to the Hinman family for hosting, and to the local ranchers, conservation groups, volunteers, and teachers who made it happen!

Angel had the opportunity to represent RSA at the Billings Chamber of Commerce monthly Ag Committee meeting this past Friday.

She was invited by Taylor Brown of Northern Broadcasting Network to share about the work we do at RSA and give an overview of our mission and the impact we’re making in our community.

Angel was joined by our board member, Amber Smith, who presented alongside her. We love opportunities like this to tell our story, build connections, and help more people learn about the work happening through RSA! Billings Chamber of Commerce Northern Ag Network

It’s a wrap on Soil Health Field Days!

Day two was just as packed as day one. Ray and Alejandro covered a ton of ground.

We talked animal genetics and epigenetics, water and fencing setups that make sense on a working ranch, and how sunlight, water, nutrients, and diversity all play into soil biology.

We split the time between getting our hands in the dirt and talking through real ranch examples inside.

A few people told us it was one of the best workshops they’ve been to all year, which was so good to hear.

Thanks to everyone who came out for both days and a special thank you to the Matador, our sponsors and of course, to Ray and Alejandro, we are truly grateful!

Soil Health Field Days with Ray Archuleta and Alejandro Carrillo was a full house. We got our hands in the dirt testing soil samples, watched a rainfall simulator in action, talked grazing, what healthy ground looks like on a working ranch and so much more. This was just day one!
