More than 30 residents gathered at the old Malott School and former Grange Hall on Saturday, May 16, for a community History Day hosted by the Malott Improvement Club. The building was one of the few structures to survive the 1938 Loup Loup Creek flood.
The afternoon featured an ice cream social, shared memories from longtime residents, and a display of historical documents brought by honoree Georgene (Davis) Fitzgerald, including early school records, vintage yearbooks, and general history of the area. Attendees also viewed a 30‑minute video on Malott’s history, narrated by Fitzgerald, tracing the town’s development from its original platting.
In recognition of Fitzgerald’s decades of work preserving local history, the Malott Improvement Club Board voted to rededicate the Grange Hall in her honor. As part of the tribute, the building’s sign has been replaced.
Thank you to all who attended!
