Because of your generosity, we’ve already secured funding for next year’s Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship—an incredible milestone in our first fundraising campaign.

As we continue to grow, our vision extends beyond a single scholarship. We want to create opportunities that reflect the values Nick lived every day: kindness, community, leadership, and bringing people together.

Future donations will help us:

🎓 Sustain and grow the scholarship for future Franklin Academy students who exemplify character, humility, and service.

🍝 Host a community spaghetti dinner that brings families, alumni, and community members together while giving back. The event would include raffles, community engagement opportunities, and chances for students to develop leadership and volunteer experience.

🏒🏈⚽ Partner with a Franklin Academy athletic program for a charity game or community night, celebrating Nick’s story while supporting our Franklin Academy Huskies. Our goal is to create an event that unites athletes, students, alumni, and community members around a shared purpose.

🎓Scholarship Recipient Announcement🎓

We are proud to announce the very first recipient of the 2026 Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship:

Miley Karyn Esther Barnes

As we reviewed applications for our inaugural scholarship, Miley stood out for all the right reasons. Her application, essays, and letters of recommendation consistently highlighted qualities that reminded us of Nick: kindness, humility, empathy, integrity, and a genuine desire to help others.

What made Miley’s application especially meaningful was the way others spoke about her character. One recommendation described her as someone who treats others with compassion not because she is asked to, but because it is simply who she is. She was praised for her humility, her willingness to put others before herself, her loyalty to her friends and community, and her ability to lead by example rather than seek recognition. The letter went on to say that she possesses the same quiet strength of character that this scholarship was created to honor.

Again and again, we read about someone who makes people feel welcome, supports those around her, and leaves a positive impact wherever she goes. Those are the qualities that made Nick so special, and the qualities this scholarship was created to recognize.

We are honored to name Miley Barnes as the first-ever recipient of the Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship and look forward to seeing all she accomplishes at St. Lawrence University.

Today, we are proud to officially announce that the Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship has been approved as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

What began as conversations between friends, family, and community members has grown into something much bigger — a lasting opportunity to honor Nick’s legacy through future generations of students.

On June 8th, during the Franklin Academy Awards Night, we will officially launch our first fundraising campaign:
“Carry the Legacy Forward.”

This campaign is the beginning of building something meaningful together as a community, and we are incredibly excited for what’s ahead.

To the Malone and Rochester communities, local businesses, organizations, alumni, and families — thank you for believing in this mission and supporting what we’re building.

We would like to sincerely thank every student who took the time to apply for the Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship this year.

Reading your stories, experiences, and aspirations is an honor for our team and for the Fassett family. Each application represents the strength, character, and determination that this scholarship was created to recognize.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn about the incredible students in our community, and we look forward to carefully reviewing each application in the weeks ahead.

The recipient of the Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship will be announced at the Franklin Academy Awards Night on June 8, 2026.

Just a reminder that applications for the Nicholas Fassett Memorial Scholarship are due to the Franklin Academy Guidance Office by March 6th!

This scholarship honors a senior at Franklin Academy who demonstrates the kindness, humility, and loyalty that Nick lived by every day.

If you or someone you know plans to apply, please make sure all materials are submitted by the deadline.
