Women’s Veterans Day is observed on June 12 each year in the United States. It commemorates the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, a historic law that allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. Armed Forces rather than only during times of war.

Today is a day to recognize and honor the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of the millions of women who have served our nation in uniform. From the trailblazers who broke barriers to the women currently serving around the world, their contributions have strengthened our military and helped shape our nations history!

If you could help spread the word. Ms. Marjorie Keltings students will be singing some patriotic songs in honor of Flag Day. She asked if any vets wanted to attend.

We (St. Joes) are planning a flag day celebration on Friday, June 12 @ 7:50am.

We will have our school announcements, pledge to the flag, and sing 4 songs.

You’re A Grand Old Flag
My County ‘Tis of Thee
This Land is Your Land
Star Spangled Banner

We are extending an invite to the members of the American Legion. Join us, if you are able. The students, and teachers, would love to have our service men and women present.

(We have a rain date for Monday, June 15) I’ll decide after looking at the weather once we get closer to the date.

Thanks!

Today flags were placed on veteran graves in the area cemeteries. This is a big job, and is managed by the Sons of the Legion. To assist we had several members of the Trail Life Boys and the American Heritage Girls. They provided many hands and made the job so much easier. The Boy Scouts also assisted in this by placing flags last weekend. Many thanks to all those that helped.
