A big thank you to Officer Lavigne and K9 Rodo from the Malone Police Department for visiting our Trail Life troop last night. It was a fun and informative evening, and the boys had a great time asking questions and watching Rodo in action.

A special thank you as well to Mr. Jordan from our troop for volunteering to wear the K9 training vest and take a couple of training bites from Rodo. That definitely made for a memorable demonstration.

We are grateful for the time Officer Lavigne and K9 Rodo spent with us. It was a great experience for everyone and gave us an even greater respect for our officers and their K9 partners.

And we can't forget about Mr. Jon and his side kick Buddy. Buddy is our Troop mascot always happy and looking for a snack or leftovers at campouts like Jon.

Trail Life USA NY 1412
Last night was a special milestone for our Troop as we had the honor of hosting our very first Trail Life Freedom Award Ceremony. This past summer, our Trailman Chris Brown earned the Freedom Award—the highest achievement in Trail Life. Almost immediately after completing this incredible accomplishment, Chris left for Basic Training with the United States Air Force. With Chris home on leave, we were grateful he could join us and allow us to properly recognize him in front of his Troop, leaders, family, and the younger boys who look up to him.

We were also honored to have a member of our local American Legion Post 219 in attendance. He presented Chris with a Good Citizenship Citation in recognition of his achievement of the Freedom Award and the example he sets through his service, leadership, outdoor skills, and commitment to his faith. What a powerful moment to see our community come alongside one of our own.

Chris joined the United States Air Force on July 8, 2025, graduated boot camp as part of the Honor Guard, and went on to attend tech school at Vandenberg Space Force Base as a 2M0X3 Missile and Space Facilities Specialist. He is currently stationed at Vandenberg SFB with the 532nd Training Squadron and holds the rank of E-2 Airman.

We could not be more proud of Chris. Watching him grow through Trail Life and now serve our country is a tremendous blessing. Congratulations, Airman Brown — your Troop stands proudly behind you! 🇺🇸 Walk Worthy

The other night, we had the honor of being part of Christopher Brown’s Board of Review for his Freedom Rangeman Rank — the highest award in Trail Life USA. The Freedom Award represents a young man’s journey of leadership, character, service, and faith. It is a significant achievement that reflects years of dedication, growth, and a commitment to living out biblical values in every area of life.

From Troop NY-1412, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Christopher Brown on earning the rank of Freedom Rangeman!

This has been a long and meaningful journey. Chris has been with our Troop since we started in 2018. Looking back, we’ve seen many godly men walk alongside him, offering guidance, encouragement, and wisdom. It has truly been a privilege to play even a small part in his growth.

A huge thank you to all of our Troop Leaders, Board Members, and to Chris’s family for helping him reach this milestone.

We are also grateful to the NY-2 Pointman, the NY-2 Freedom Award Advisor, and the Northeast DSA Chair for being present and supporting Chris during his Board of Review.

Walk Worthy,
Mike Emond
