SEED - Specialized Equipment Exchange Depot" Improving access to specialized equipment for underserved children This was the seed of an idea that I have been germinating with the help of Citizen Advocates.

I have been working as a Physical Therapist for over 26 years spanning multiple states and even countries. I have always been frustrated with getting much needed adaptive equipment into the homes of children who need them. Together, we are starting a new program for children in need called S.E.E.D. (Specialized Equipment Exchange Depot). The goal of the exchange is to improve access to underfunded

equipment for children with special needs. It would be a place where outgrown, under-used or no-longer-needed equipment can be donated and stored. When an individual requires a piece of equipment, they would have the ability to come with their provider to choose, acquire or exchange appropriate equipment that would advance their independent functioning and/or special interests. Since we are in the sprouting phase of our exchange, we are looking for equipment that you may have hidden away in storage. This could be anything from wheelchairs, standers, communication devices, commodes, adaptive bicycles and sporting equipment, or anything else that you think other children with special needs may require to improve their daily function. Once our seedling begins to grow, we will then be able to invite therapists to peruse our selection of equipment and then help with the selection of appropriate equipment for the children. I hope that with your assistance, we can grow this exchange to a full blossoming umbrella of a tree that will flourish and cover our children in the area with the equipment that they need.
