Welcome to EcoMalibu.org, The heart of Malibu's Eco-system is dysfunctional and a major source of pollution. The eco-system includes the Malibu Creek floodplain, wetland, lagoon and surfzone, and is one of the most studied areas in the world. Major scientific investigations and numerous video documentaries, linked on our web site at www.ecomalibu.org, explain in detail how ill-placed shopping cent

ers, office buildings and parking lots that invite excessive traffic create pollution in a sensitive wildlife habitat area, making world famous Malibu Surfrider Beach one of the most polluted coastal tourist destinations in the Santa Monica Bay.

Sadly, my best friend and business associate, Mark Abramson, passed away last night, according to his brother Jeff. He leaves behind his wife, Margo, and an enormous family and friends, many of whom worked with him.

He was a true environmentalist and called himself a waterman. Urban EcoScapes was his most recent business venture, in which he mainly provided environmental restoration services. He was also the vice president and treasurer of the nonprofit EcoMalibu.

Working in stream and wetland restoration for 15 years, he created the highly successful Malibu Creek Watershed Stream Team program for Heal the Bay. He was the Stream Team’s Captain for the first ten years before joining the Santa Monica Baykeeper in 2007 and becoming their Director of Watershed Programs. While employed by the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation, he managed the Malibu Lagoon restoration project for the Santa Monica Bay Commission, the State Coastal Conservancy, and State Parks. He is also engaged in stream restoration on Stone Creek at the UCLA campus and Arroyo Sequit Creek.

As recognition for his great work and many accomplishments, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) in Washington, DC, honored Mark Abramson on May 8, 2014, with the prestigious National Wetland Award for his conservation and restoration efforts in Los Angeles County.
