Our workers have grinded all summer participating in the free English classes offered through our partnership with Santa Monica College. 📚

Every lesson is an opportunity to practice, and learn something new alongside one another. We’re proud to see our community showing up, supporting each other, and continuing to grow every week.

💼 Skill Spotlight Tuesday

Understanding business is more than learning how companies work. It's learning how to build a future.

This week's spotlight is Business Essentials, a free Santa Monica College course that helps students develop business knowledge, strengthen decision-making skills, and build confidence exploring new career opportunities.

At Malibu Labor Exchange, many workers are investing their time beyond the workday to gain skills that can lead to long-term stability and growth.

Every class is another step toward new opportunities.

🚲 Skill Spotlight Tuesday

A day's work is important, but so is building for tomorrow.

Every Tuesday, we'll be highlighting free educational opportunities available through Santa Monica College that Malibu Labor Exchange workers can take to build new skills, explore career paths, and create greater stability for themselves and their families.

This week's spotlight is Bicycle Maintenance: a hands-on course that teaches practical repair and maintenance skills while opening the door to new opportunities.

Behind every day labor job is someone working toward something bigger. Many of the workers at Malibu Labor Exchange spend their days working and their evenings investing in their futures through classes like these.

Join us each Tuesday as we celebrate the hard work happening both on and off the job site.

We are pleased to welcome Matt Myerhoff to the Board of Directors at the Malibu Community Labor Exchange. Matt currently serves as the Media Information Officer for the City of Malibu and brings more than 20 years of experience in public sector communications, including crisis communications, media relations, and community engagement. His previous leadership roles include work with the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. We are grateful for his leadership and look forward to the insight and experience he will bring to our mission of supporting workers and the Malibu community.

MCLE is proud to have partnered on the recently published study, “Dollars and Zen,” which explores the intersection of financial capability and stress management within Latino communities. Community-based digital interventions succeed through trust, collaboration, and strong local leadership. We are grateful to contribute to research that centers dignity, empowerment, and long-term impact. We are especially grateful to Luisa for her leadership in launching this initiative and for her dedication to advancing community-centered research that promotes financial wellbeing and equity. It truly takes a village, and we are honored to be part of this meaningful work. Building on this success, we are excited to collaborate on the MyMoneyPlus program this spring and continue advancing financial wellness within our community through strong partnership and shared commitment.
