The Malden Police Department is asking for the community’s help locating Aline Santos (17), missing from Malden, MA.

Aline is approximately 5’06”, 120 lbs, with a slim build, black hair, and black eyes. She was last seen wearing black pants and a gray shirt and may frequent Medford, East Boston, and Hartford, CT.

The tale of two Education full time employment headcount Malden ?

The Department of Education (DESE) certified education staff numbers for Malden Public Schools appear fairly steady over this decade 780 administrators, teachers, para’s and other licensed and non licensed in 2023 . See chart below from DESE as well as link in the comments.

However in Malden’s Comprehensive Financial Review of 2025 on page 119, see screenshot attached, it says “Education“ full time staff is 1,121 (FTE’s} in 2025 climbing from 904(FTE’s) in 2019 a 215 body increase.

The difference between the DESE and Malden numbers is gigantic. 1,121 FTE’s less 780 FTE’s or 341. This is also where the 207 increase in overall staff took place.

So the question is what are these positions, who are these people and what 207 positions called Education by the City are really education and not just stuffed into this category in order to pretend they cannot be removed?

To my fellow Malden Citizens before considering the prop 2.5 override the Mayor and most City Councilors are promoting, it is important you understand how many millions in unrestricted reserves the City is sitting on right now, and why when it was $22 million on June 30, 2025 we are now in crisis?

If they cannot answer this basic question, without having made a single adjustment to headcount, it means it’s a con job to get the citizens to pay more taxes to fulfill their wish lists.

Please any Councilor or the Mayor come and answer the question and tell the citizens if the unrestricted reserve I’m stating from your report is incorrect. Not one has to date.

Here is the chart from the City of Malden Comprehensive Financial Report Year ending June 30, 2025? It is still over $15 million today probably more, if I’m incorrect just answer and let people know how much reserve there is and what it’s expected to be in June 30 this year?

Silence on this issue is an answer. Page 6 of the report shows the City has grown its reserves to one of the highest levels ever. Page 119 shows that the city employee headcount has skyrocketed by 20% in the last ten years despite the city not growing and our school system student population shrinking. “We the People“ deserve truth and answers.
