"Early on, I knew I wanted to figure out better ways to get food to people who are hungry." 🌾

Mahalo to for this powerful perspective from Rotary member David Bobanick. David highlights a sobering truth: global hunger isn't a problem of production—it's a problem of connection and distribution. Through the global reach of Rotary, leaders are bridging those gaps to feed communities.

When local education inspires a young mind to engineer a way to pull fresh water right out of the air to heal a neighboring island, you know our Upcountry future is in brilliant hands. Yesterday in Makawao, our agile 9-member team gathered to honor Brennan Tanaka from Kamehameha Schools Maui as our April Student of the Month. This kind and intelligent National Honor Society standout—who is also a dedicated long-time Boy Scout—is heading to Northeastern University to study mechanical engineering, bringing immense pride to his family and his home communities from Pukalani to Kula. By recognizing visionary youth like Brennan, our tight-knit group of neighbors proves that a small, hands-on team can spark waves of change and Create Lasting Impact across the Pacific.

Mahalo to for sharing Nicole Peña’s inspiring story! 🌟 Nicole highlights how Rotary is a place for endless opportunities and personal growth, where we can learn from the experience of "giants" and make a true impact. It’s a reminder that while we work to change the world, Rotary also changes us. Global impact, local heart. Our small club of 9 here in Upcountry Maui is proud to be part of a 1.4 million-member global 'ohana dedicated to this kind of personal and communal growth. Just as Nicole found mentorship in her community, we are committed to nurturing local talent through our Students of the Month program, supporting our haumāna at King Kekaulike and Kamehameha Schools Maui as they become the leaders of tomorrow. We are working together to Create Lasting Impact in 2026 and beyond!Join us at an upcoming meeting to find your place in our 'ohana!

Restoring the Kula ‘āina is a labor of love that begins with the dirt under our fingernails.
This past Saturday, our small but mighty 9-member team joined forces with neighbors from across Maui and Oahu to clear the way for native koa, ‘ohi‘a, na‘u, hala, and sandalwood in the burn zone. Working alongside Mālama Kula, we are transforming a landscape of loss into a sanctuary of growth for the next generation. We take pride in being an agile group of neighbors who meet in Makawao to ensure our local efforts create lasting impact across the slopes of Haleakalā. Together, we are proving that even a small club can be a powerful force for protecting the environment.

Tao Okabe is a young man on a mission to heal, and his dedication to our Upcountry community is nothing short of inspiring. At our April 10 meeting in Makawao, our agile 9-member team was honored to celebrate this King Kekaulike High School standout as our Student of the Month. Tao’s resume reads like a masterclass in leadership: three years in student government, a mainstay in the STEM club, and a dedicated AVID student. But it is his vision for the future that truly resonates—he is headed for medical school with a focus on cardiology, driven by a deep desire to expand medical capacity here on Maui and in developing nations. Having already been named our club’s $5,000 Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (HRYF) scholarship recipient back in February, seeing Tao earn this additional honor alongside his proud parents was a testament to his consistent character. By investing in scholars like Tao, we continue to Create Lasting Impact from Pukalani to the far reaches of the Pacific.
