This week we celebrated an important milestone in the community of Isla Chica

After a period of working together, the water system is now fully managed and operated by the local community, through its water committee.

At Agua Viva, we believe in walking alongside communities as they build sustainable solutions, and this is a great example of that process: organization, learning, and local leadership.
We remain available to provide technical support when needed, while celebrating this achievement with them.

Water changes lives, but it is the community that makes it sustainable.

Today marks one year since this journey began (hiking new heights for clean water).
What started as a hike up the mountain…
became something much greater.

Thanks to the support of our extended Agua Viva family, in 2025 we were able to accomplish:
15+ community projects
6 new wells providing safe water to over 270 people
Improvements to existing systems, including a new water tower in La Trocha now serving more than 1,500 residents
New connections bringing reliable drinking water to more families

This video takes us back to the beginning…
the preparation, the anticipation, and that moment when everything was just about to start.
One year later, we see the impact.
And we keep moving forward together.
Thank you for being part of this story

Earlier this year, George Gull and Nancy Potter joined Agua Viva Serves for a two-month mission experience in Costa Rica.

During their time with us, they accompanied a volunteer team that served in the community for one week — a week filled with service, connection, and meaningful impact.
Together with community members, the team participated in several activities, including:
Supporting ongoing water system improvements
Helping host an eyeglass clinic
Providing blood pressure checks
Spending time with children through games and activities
Building relationships with local families

George and Nancy recently shared a reflection about that week of service, capturing the spirit of what it means to serve alongside communities and witness transformation firsthand.
We invite you to read their story and experience that week through their eyes:

Every week of service helps strengthen communities and reminds us that when people come together with a shared purpose, meaningful change happens.

In Las Flores, a group of volunteers from Texas didn’t just visit — they built.

They dug the holes.
They poured the concrete.
They carried the steel.
They lifted a 6-meter platform into place.

At one point, we looked like tiny ants next to that massive structure 😅
But together, we made it stand.

This is what service looks like.
Real work. Real impact. Real change.

Clean water doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens when people say yes.

So here’s the question:

Are you next?
What are you waiting for?

Come volunteer with us.
Come get your hands dirty.
Come build something that will outlast you.

Yesterday we experienced a very meaningful gathering in La Guaria de Pocosol, where around 50 representatives from the community water committees and development associations of La Guaria, San Isidro, Llano Verde, El Campo, Jocote, and San Cristóbal came together to strengthen community leadership and our shared commitment to protecting water 💧
It was a day of learning and unity, with the support of the Universidad de Costa Rica, the Universidad Nacional, and the Ministerio de Salud. In one shared space, we discussed the legal responsibilities of water committees, the importance of working together as communities, and the proper way to conduct water quality analyses — including pH, turbidity, chlorine, and N1 testing — to ensure that the water reaching our families is safe and reliable.
At Agua Viva, we believe water is not just managed — it is protected through leadership, knowledge, and teamwork. When communities step forward with responsibility and unity, real change happens.
Because water is life — and protecting it today means securing the future of our communities tomorrow.

Days 3 & 4 | Incredible Progress

The progress over the past two days has been nothing short of amazing.
Day 3: We successfully finished pouring concrete into all the foundation holes, completing the base needed to support the water tower.

Day 4: With teamwork and determination, we raised the water tower platform a major milestone for this project and for the community it will serve.
This marked our final workdays together. Now, the group will enjoy a well deserved time of rest in La Fortuna, and tomorrow they will travel to the airport to begin their journey home.

We are deeply grateful for the commitment, hard work, and hearts of service shown by our friends from FUMC Graham, Texas. This project will leave a lasting impact for years to come.
Thank you for walking this journey with us

Day 2 | Progress in Action
Today was another productive and meaningful day working alongside our amazing volunteers from FUMC Graham, Texas

We continued work on the water tower platform, painting the structure and pouring concrete into the holes that were prepared yesterday.
Today we made solid progress by completing two holes measuring 80 cm x 80 cm, strengthening the foundation for what will soon become a vital water system for the community

Meanwhile, Team B shared their knowledge by supporting English classes at INA, investing not only in infrastructure but also in education and personal growth

Step by step, progress is happening—thanks to teamwork, service, and shared purpose.

First Day of Work with Volunteers from Texas 🇺🇸

This week we are excited and grateful to be working alongside an amazing group of volunteers from FUMC Graham, Texas. With a group of 14 people, our very first day together has already been full of meaningful impact and teamwork

Team A is working in the community of Las Flores, where we are building the foundation for a 6-meter water tower that will supply the community by gravity—a big step toward sustainable access to clean water
Team B traveled to the community of El Triunfo, Medio Queso, where we conducted eye exams and donated non-prescription glasses to community members

In the afternoon, we were blessed to host VBS, with around 80 children participating—filling the day with joy, learning, and hope

What will happen tomorrow?
Stay tuned 🔥

Last Saturday, an important community meeting took place in La Trocha, where the Water Committee, with the support of Agua Viva, presented a general report on the drinking water project to the community.

During the event, the following was shared:
An overview of the projects completed
The future projects planned to continue strengthening the system
The financial report, presented by AVS staff
And the election of the new Water Committee members, who will support community progress for the next two years

These spaces promote transparency, community participation, and shared responsibility in caring for such a vital resource as water.

As we come to the end of this year, we pause with grateful hearts.

Thank you to every volunteer, every donor, every church, every partner, and everyone who prayed for Agua Viva Serves throughout this year. Your support — whether big or small, seen or unseen — made a difference in the lives of the communities we walk alongside.

This year reminded us that the work is never done alone. It is built through trust, service, shared purpose, and the belief that access to clean water can transform lives.

As we look ahead, we do so with gratitude for what was accomplished and hope for what is still to come.

💧 Thank you for being part of this journey.
