Important Information to Remember:

🦌 Please Leave Fawns Alone ❌
Each year well meaning people come across a sight like this and think something is wrong. This is completely normal behavior for a deer fawn, and human intervention is unnecessary.
⭐ The More You Know 🌈
⏺️ Fawns are born nearly scentless (so predators cannot find them easily). They also have spots that serve as camouflage and are able to stand soon after being born, but as a protective tactic will remain hidden.
⏺️ It is common for female deer in urban areas to place fawns around homes, backyards, or flower beds. The mother placed it there because she felt it would be safe (often intentionally near humans).
⏺️ To protect her fawn, the mother will spend very little time with it. This is to prevent attracting predators to the fawn’s location. She will leave her fawn in various hiding places for long periods of time, returning several times a day to nurse it. By staying away, the mother is protecting it.
⏺️ Fawns will begin following their mothers at four weeks old. When they are two months old, fawns are able to forage for themselves and are completely weaned from their mother.

This Saturday, let’s have a little fun — we all deserve it! 🖤

Strange Raze is happening at the Morrow Arts Center, so we will be at Myles Ahead @ the MAC from 11am to 5pm with some adorable adoptable animals!

But this Saturday, we want to do something a little extra special.

For the past several weeks, we’ve shared stories about our Hospice Animals. These are animals whose time may be limited, but whose lives still deserve joy, love, treats, attention, and celebration.

So from 2pm to 5pm, we will be bringing:
🐾 Aurora aka “Noodle” — our sweet puppy with a serious heart condition whose life will sadly be much shorter than it should be.
🐾 Frank — our 19-year-old hospice kitty who absolutely loves attention and affection.

Their lives may be shortened, but they deserve to be celebrated while they are here. ❤️

Come spend a little time with them.
Bring them a treat.
Give them some love.
Take some photos.
Let’s make them feel special and party with them during Strange Raze!

We hope to see you Saturday at the MAC!

Myles Ahead embarked on a journey a few years ago to find homes for cats that truly thrive living outdoors by partnering with local farmers. Through this program, we provide fully vetted barn cats to help naturally control rodent populations, protecting feed, hay, and animal supplies.

To help ensure success, Myles Ahead sets up an enclosure and places the cats in a fully enclosed kennel that meets all of their needs. The cats remain kenneled for 4–6 weeks so they can decompress, adjust, and become familiar with their new surroundings. During this time, the farmer provides daily food, water, and litter care with supplies provided by Myles Ahead.

Once acclimated, the cats are released to enjoy their new barn home. Afterward, the farm simply returns the supplies to Myles Ahead — unless they decide they would like more kitties!

We currently have several cats looking for barn homes. Some are friendly, some need time to warm up, and some prefer to simply coexist from a distance — but all make wonderful additions to a farm and excellent rodent deterrents.

If you can provide:
🐾 One daily feeding
🐾 Fresh water
🐾 A safe place to live and shelter

…we would love to hear from you!

: From a scary shelter in Kentucky to... still waiting for his big break. 💔
Take a look at that first photo. That was Charlie a year and a half ago, just a tiny, confused pup pulled from a crowded, high-kill shelter in Kentucky. We promised him the day we loaded him into our transport van with his three siblings that his life was changing for the better.
Fast forward to today: Charlie is now a gorgeous, goofy, 1.5-year-old Boxer mix who has spent practically his entire life growing up in rescue.
While he is safe and incredibly loved by our volunteers, a rescue is no place to grow up. He deserves a couch of his own. He deserves a family to celebrate his second birthday with.

Charlie is the ultimate Boxer mix—wiggly, affectionate, smart, and always ready for an adventure. He can be hesitant and slow to accept other larger dogs, but has adjusted well with time and patience. Put in public- as many have you have seen during events- he’s a gentlemen. Loves kids, people, treats and toys. At home he can be protective of his people. So low traffic households with a large fenced in back yard are ideal. Let’s make this his very last in rescue.

Share his story, tag a friend who loves Boxers, and let’s find this sweet Kentucky boy his forever home! 🏡❤️

Sometimes people need to hear the blunt and honest reality of rescue, so we apologize in advance for this post.

If you feed an animal, please ensure it is spayed or neutered. If your pets are not fixed, it is no longer an “accident.” Rescue groups and shelters cannot continue carrying the weight of irresponsible ownership alone.

When someone contacts us asking for help with a momma dog and puppies, we immediately jump into action because that is what we do. But when we spend hours arranging fosters, transport, vetting, and supplies, only to suddenly be told they changed their mind and are keeping the animals, that time was taken away from other animals that truly needed us.

Please also understand that withholding information or not being honest about an animal’s history sets both the rescue and the animal up for failure.

If you have not read the new Ohio laws regarding pet ownership and rescue, you need to. Rescues and shelters are already asked to do the impossible every single day. Now we are expected to do it blindfolded, with our hands tied behind our backs.

By the end of this week, Myles Ahead will have over 100 kittens in foster care. We are turning away far more animals than we are able to take in simply because we do not have enough space, fosters, or resources.

If we divided the hours we work into any kind of hourly wage, it would not even equal a dollar — and every single one of us volunteers our time. Holidays do not exist in rescue. Days off do not exist in rescue. Sleep is often limited. Heartbreak is guaranteed.

And despite what many believe, adoption fees rarely cover the true cost of care. Veterinary bills, formula, food, medications, supplies, and emergency care continue to rise while rescues everywhere are drowning.

We are tired. We are overwhelmed. But we continue because the animals need us.

Please spay and neuter.
Please be responsible.
Please understand that rescues cannot fix this crisis alone.
Please consider doing what you can to help! Post in our comments unique ideas to help with the current state of rescue!
