🚨 Deeply Alarming: Disney Cruise Ship Crew Members Among 28 Arrested in Major Federal Child Sexual Exploitation Sting
Families stepping aboard Disney and other cruise ships for what should be joyful, memorable vacations were unknowingly surrounded by alleged predators working in close proximity to their children.
Between April 23 and 25, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers boarded five cruise ships, including the Disney Magic docked in San Diego.
During these operations, authorities arrested 28 crew members: 26 from the Philippines, one from Portugal, and one from Indonesia.
All were confirmed to be involved in the receipt, possession, transportation, distribution, or viewing of child sexual exploitation material.
The individuals had their visas immediately canceled and were swiftly removed from the United States.
Passengers on the Disney Magic were stunned to witness multiple crew members being handcuffed and led off the ship in real time during disembarkation.
One guest, Dharmi Mehta, recorded video of her own server being taken into custody, capturing the shocking moment families realized who had been serving them throughout their voyage.
Disney issued a statement affirming a zero-tolerance policy:
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for this type of behavior and fully cooperated with law enforcement. While the majority of these individuals were not from our cruise line, those who were are no longer with the company.”
At least three of the arrested crew members were from Disney vessels.
This operation exposes serious vulnerabilities in how cruise lines screen, monitor, and vet international crew members who live and work in intimate, confined spaces with thousands of children and families.
Predators were operating undetected in one of the most trusted “family-friendly” environments—a sobering reality that should concern every parent.
While law enforcement deserves credit for swift action, this incident raises urgent questions:
• Are background checks thorough enough?
• Is ongoing monitoring adequate?
• How many more cases go undetected?
Parents and guardians, this cannot be ignored.
Our children’s safety must be non-negotiable.
Demand stronger safeguards—rigorous enhanced vetting, continuous monitoring, and independent oversight—from every cruise line before another family boards unaware.
Hold every institution accountable.
Stay vigilant.
