🐾✨ Destiny's Story ✨🐾
Two years ago, sweet Destiny was discarded like trash.
As a young puppy, she was dumped at a local landfill. The act was caught on camera, but unfortunately there wasn't enough evidence to identify or prosecute the person responsible. Left to survive on her own, Destiny spent the next two years scavenging for food among piles of garbage, facing the elements, predators, hunger, and loneliness.
Somehow, she endured.
During those years, Destiny became a mother at least twice. She did everything she could to protect and provide for her babies, despite having so little herself. This past winter, after a brutal snowstorm claimed some of her puppies, Destiny made a desperate and courageous decision. She carried the surviving pups to a nearby home, seeking help the only way she knew how.
That call for help changed everything.
Happy Tails Rescue took in her puppies and initially planned to spay Destiny and return her to the area, believing she was completely feral after years of surviving on her own. But during the overnight stay before her spay appointment, something remarkable happened.
We discovered that Destiny wasn't feral at all.
Underneath the fear was a dog who desperately wanted to be loved. A dog who had simply spent years learning that people weren't always safe. For the first time in a very long time, she was given a chance to rest, to trust, and to be cared for.
Today, Destiny is proving every day that healing is possible.
She is wonderful with the dogs and cats in her foster home. She absolutely adores her foster mom and has recently started climbing onto the couch on her own, quietly asking for affection and reassurance. Every tail wag, every gentle touch she accepts, every brave step she takes is a victory.
She still has a journey ahead of her. Destiny will need a patient family, a securely fenced yard, and people willing to move at her pace. But for those willing to give her that chance, the reward will be immeasurable.
Like so many dogs who spend years surviving on their own without veterinary care or heartworm prevention, Destiny tested positive for heartworms. This week, she bravely received her first heartworm treatment injection and still has two more scheduled in June.
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life threatening disease spread by mosquitoes. Treatment is lengthy, expensive, and requires strict activity restrictions, but it is absolutely worth it to give dogs like her the healthy future she deserves. Just another reminder of just how important monthly heartworm prevention is for pets.
Through it all, Destiny continues to show incredible resilience and trust. After everything she's endured, she's finally receiving the medical care, comfort, and love she has always deserved.
After surviving a landfill, raising puppies in impossible conditions, and spending years believing she was on her own, Destiny is finally learning what every dog deserves to know:
She is safe. She is loved. And she matters.
We are so proud of you, sweet girl. ❤️🐾
