Meet Devika.

When our Changemakers were challenged to redesign social media, Devika focused on a serious reality:
Exploitation and trafficking can begin online.

Research shows that more than 60% of trafficking victims are recruited through online platforms, often through fake accounts and manipulation.

So Devika designed BrightLine.
A social media platform built to detect and stop exploitation before it happens.

BrightLine would:
• use AI to detect suspicious behavior and trafficking language
• suspend dangerous accounts automatically
• allow anonymous reporting of threats
• connect users to support resources
• educate people on how trafficking recruitment works

Because social media shouldn’t just connect people.
It should protect them.

Next week we’ll introduce another Changemaker and another vision for a safer digital world.

Most threats don’t look like threats at first.

They look like kindness.
Like attention.
Like someone who “gets you.”

Gaming spaces are no longer just games.
They’re social spaces — and that makes them powerful… but also vulnerable to exploitation.

The shift is subtle.
The impact is real.

If something feels off, trust that feeling.
You don’t owe anyone access to you.

Not every “nice” message is harmless.
Sometimes, it’s a test.

Online exploitation often begins with something that feels good
a compliment, attention, validation.

Because the goal isn’t immediate harm.
It’s access.

Who replies?
Who engages?
Who can be slowly pulled into a conversation?

We teach young people to be polite.
To respond. To not ignore people.

But safety sometimes looks like silence.

Not every message deserves your time.
Not every person deserves access to you.
And ignoring someone can be one of the strongest boundaries you set.

Meet Ava.

When we asked our Changemakers to redesign social media, Ava focused on something many teens feel but rarely say out loud:
A lot of social media makes people feel worse about themselves.

So she created Bloom.

An app where:
• there are no followers
• no influencers
• no likes

Instead, people connect through small interest groups and share what they are learning, experiencing, and growing through.

Bloom even checks in on how users are feeling and connects them with support if they need it.

Because social media shouldn’t tear people down.
It should help them bloom.

Next week we’ll introduce another Changemaker and another idea for the future of digital spaces.

It’s not about knowing what to say. It’s about making sure they don’t regret telling you.

We recently had the privilege of hosting a parent/guardian workshop at Robert H. Goddard High School.
Prevention is about equipping the people who love our kids most with the tools to protect them. The feedback from our time there was unanimous:
✅ Total Clarity: Parents walked away feeling very confident in identifying and combatting image-based abuse.
✅ Open Dialogue: Every participant we heard from is committed to starting proactive safety conversations at home.
✅ Real Action: From tech rules to privacy audits, these families are leaving ready to lead.
When we bridge the gap between technology and parenting, we create a safer world for our youth.
Huge thanks to the Robert H. Goddard community for having us. Want TAARA to come to your school or organization?

Meet Bella.
When Bella started thinking about what social media could look like if girls designed it, she noticed something many teens experience every day:
Social media can feel like a competition.
So she created BuildMeUp.
An app built around one simple idea:
People should leave social media feeling better about themselves.
On BuildMeUp:
• there are no likes or follower counts
• posts are real and unfiltered
• users connect through small supportive communities called Builder Hubs
• messaging requires live verification so people know who they are talking to
Because social media shouldn’t tear people down.
It should build people up.
Next week we’ll introduce another Changemaker and another vision for a healthier digital world.

You’ve seen the headlines.
Celebrities targeted. Laws debated. Outrage amplified.

But this isn’t just a celebrity issue.

The same technology is being used on teenagers.
On students.
On people with no teams, no lawyers, no way to make it stop quickly.

Deepfakes don’t just fake content.
They create real fear, real shame, real silence.

Not everything online is real.
But the harm always is.

We asked 90 eighth graders what changed after one assembly.
91% said it shifted how they think about what they post, who they trust, and how they respond online.
Students shared they’ve already received messages asking for photos, been contacted by accounts that didn’t feel real, and seen how easily trust can be built and manipulated.
After one session, they weren’t just hearing about it.
They were recognizing it.
That shift, from exposure to awareness, is where prevention begins.

03/31/2026

We tried something simple.
At a Taara workshop, we asked people to tell the difference between real and AI-generated images.
94% got it wrong.
And that’s just images.
Now imagine voices that sound like someone you trust.
Or videos that look completely real.
We’re not just consuming content anymore
We’re navigating a world where identity itself can be created.
The question isn’t “Is this real?”
It’s “Could this be misused, and who has access to it?”
Before you post, scan it.
