Upper Sangamon River Conservancy The USRC is a volunteer organization of anyone interested in the Sangamon River! Join Today! Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m.

The Upper Sangamon River Conservancy was established in the Spring of 2009, growing out of a grassroots effort by community members who are concerned about the Sangamon River. Our purpose is to preserve, maintain, monitor, and promote public use and awareness of the Sangamon River. on the third Monday of each month throughout the year at the Mahomet Public Library and are open to the public.

New accessible Sangamon River views are now available at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve! The Gloria & Richard Rayburn Bird Overlook sits on a perch high on the east bank, downriver from the Izaak Walton Cabin.

The Upper Sangamon River Conservancy brought out two trailer loads of boats to partner with the Forest Preserves for a sunset paddle event on Sunset Lake Tuesday night. A great time was had observing herons, hearing frog and bird calls, and learning about the history and management of the site!

Come out to Lake of the Woods on Saturday and get to know the Sangamon River, rent a pedal boat on the lake, and stop by the Museum of the Grand Prairie between 3-6pm for their Historical Games program!
