The USRC is a volunteer organization of anyone interested in the Sangamon River! Join Today! Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m.

The Upper Sangamon River Conservancy was established in the Spring of 2009, growing out of a grassroots effort by community members who are concerned about the Sangamon River. Our purpose is to preserve, maintain, monitor, and promote public use and awareness of the Sangamon River. on the third Monday of each month throughout the year at the Mahomet Public Library and are open to the public.

USRC volunteers spent a recent Sunday cleaning trash out of the Sangamon River between Heron View Forest Preserve and Lake of the Woods.

Thanks to everyone who helped support our programs by sponsoring a duck for our annual race! Almost 600 ducks sprinted downriver, and many went right on past the funnel this year for the first time. We rescued them all!
We appreciate this community and had a great time as always learning with you and sharing connections to the river during the annual Mahomet Music Festival.

One week until the annual Duck Race! The recent flooding had our ducks out of row, and we're way behind on finding them sponsors. This is our big fundraiser for the year, which secures support for our conservation efforts. Plus, you get a chance at some incredible prizes!

Thank goodness the USRC Duck Race wasn't scheduled for the past weekend!
Although new speed records may have been set, we're looking forward to calmer waters for the race on Saturday, August 29!

New accessible Sangamon River views are now available at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve! The Gloria & Richard Rayburn Bird Overlook sits on a perch high on the east bank, downriver from the Izaak Walton Cabin.
Thank you Rayburn Family for the generous gift. We saw two great blue herons from the overlook this morning!

We didn't let a misty, cloudy morning stop us from having a great time giving the community an opportunity to paddle around the lake at Summer Splash!

Mosquitoes and mud were plentiful after the rain, but the late afternoon light along the Sangamon often makes up for the inconveniences.

The Upper Sangamon River Conservancy brought out two trailer loads of boats to partner with the Forest Preserves for a sunset paddle event on Sunset Lake Tuesday night. A great time was had observing herons, hearing frog and bird calls, and learning about the history and management of the site!
