The White Oak Wind Orchestra is getting ready for an amazing 250th Patriotic Celebration on June 28th!

As we prepare for this special concert, today we are highlighting God of Our Fathers arranged by Claude T. Smith.

This powerful patriotic hymn has been a part of American musical tradition for generations. With its bold brass writing, grand hymn style, and strong sense of reverence, this arrangement brings a majestic and inspiring sound to the wind band stage.

We are especially excited to feature The Montgomery County Choral Society on this selection. The combination of wind band and choir will make this piece even more meaningful, adding strength, beauty, and a true sense of celebration.

There is nothing quite like hearing a full wind band and choir come together on a patriotic classic like God of Our Fathers. 🇺🇸

Join us on June 28th as we celebrate 250 years of American spirit, music, and community.

The White Oak Wind Orchestra is getting ready for an amazing 250th Patriotic Celebration on June 28th!

As we prepare for this special concert, here’s a little patriotic music spotlight:

Cumberland Cross by Carl Strommen brings a warm, American folk sound to the program.

This beautiful original work captures the spirit of the Appalachian landscape with broad, open harmonies and a flowing melody that feels reminiscent of Shenandoah. The music then shifts into a lively dance-like section, full of energy and charm, giving a nod to the wide-open Americana sound often associated with Aaron Copland.

Fun fact: American folk music was often passed down by ear from generation to generation, carrying stories of work, travel, faith, home, and community. That is part of what gives this style such a timeless and familiar sound.

It is the kind of piece that feels like rolling hills, front porch melodies, folk dances, and the heart of American musical storytelling.

There is something special about hearing music like this performed live by a wind band — rich, warm, and full of community spirit. 🇺🇸

Join us on June 28th as we celebrate 250 years of American spirit, music, and community.

This Memorial Day, the White Oak Wind Orchestra pauses to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As a community band, we believe music has a special way of bringing people together. It gives us a chance to reflect, to remember, and to share something meaningful with the people around us.

We would not be able to do what we do — gather as a community, make music, and celebrate the freedoms we enjoy — without the sacrifice of those who came before us.

Today, we honor their courage, their service, and their legacy.

From all of us at the White Oak Wind Orchestra, we wish you a meaningful Memorial Day.
