Supporters and friends... I hope you'll take a moment to read the below message.
I'm sorry for the long absence. We have been taking time to discuss the organization's future: whether to grow/change, merge, or close. The unfortunate reality is, we did not meet our goals this prom season. After reaching out to five high schools, a few local churches and organizations, less than 10 girls reached out for help this year – our goal was fifty which we thought was very attainable. Because of the lack of response it makes it difficult to ask for the financial support needed to move forward. So, after a lot of thoughtful conversations, I'm sorry to say the decision was made to close Formal Dreams.
Our journey over the last two and a half years has brought many blessings. Beginning with the founding board members Kristi and Jessica, thank you for your commitment and hard work to bring the foundation to life. Jennifer and Denise, thank you for your ideas and desire to be a part of the mission. To the unwavering support of my husband....you're amazing. Thank you to Georgia Charanza who made the Formal Dreams boutique possible and gave us the opportunity to offer a special shopping experience to all the young girls. Scruples Boutique and Brighton/The Woodlands Mall - your support has been a precious gift. To several local ladies organizations and all the amazing people that have donated dresses, money, time, and discounts – thank you! To all of the young ladies that came to the boutique, it was truly an honor to be a part of such a highlight event in your life.
We will be donating our inventory to a wonderful organization called Austin Fairy Godmother. Keri Byer is the Founder and CEO and she has been a great inspiration to me. Due to the structure of this organization, all of the dresses and accessories donated from Formal Dreams will continue to give back and create memories until they can no longer be worn. I encourage you to follow the wonderful things they do on Facebook.
With our remaining funds, the board of directors would like to offer a small scholarship to one of the young ladies that submitted a referral over the last two years and is currently in college or enrolled to start this year. The board will review the referrals and announce the recipient soon.
I sincerely want to thank each and every one of you for your support in making Formal Dreams possible - most of all, thank you for investing your heart. I will remember this opportunity and forever be grateful!
Warmest regards,
Jennifer Dove
