How does one eloquently put into words the events of the last 24 hours as we mark the 24th anniversary of the tragic murders that occurred on September 11th, 2001. Today, as we have done as Magna for the last 20 years beginning in 2005 at the Veterans Park, we reflect on, remember, and applaud the heroic efforts of those involved at Ground Zero this very day. At least today, once a year, we remember the victims of 9/11 and the victim's pulse 9/11 who through their valiant recovery efforts gave their lives unknowingly as they tackled the toxic debris to bring some measure of closure to the families and friends in locating as many victims remains as they could and still continue to do so today.

Let us take a moment of pause today in remembrance of those who lost their lives, and the destruction of sacred places in:

WTC North Tower
WTC South Tower
American Airlines Flight 11
United Airlines 175
American Airlines Flight 77
Pentagon
United Airlines Flight 93
WTC Building 7
St. Nicholas Geek Orthodox Church

Let us especially remember the firefighters, police, EMS who lost their lives in efforts to save others on that day and and from the effects of the toxic fallout since that day. We also remember the survivors, many who also perished years later from the fallout.

Also, many thanks to UFA 102 and 111, UPD Magna, and all of our active and retired military in Magna. God be with you always.

"When Americans lend a hand to one another, nothing is impossible. We're not about what happened on 9/11. We're about what happened on 9/12." ~ Robert Reeg, FDNY (Ret.), Engine 44

Please note:

โœจ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Honoring Patriot Day in Magna ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโœจ

This year, we will not be holding a formal 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, but we invite you to take a quiet moment on Patriot Day to visit the Magna Remembers 9/11 Memorial ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ at the UFA 102 Fire Station. A memorial wreath ๐ŸŒน will be displayed all day for reflection and remembrance.

Looking ahead, our community will gather for a very special 25th Anniversary Commemoration ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโค๏ธ on Friday, September 11, 2026. It will be a day of remembrance, unity, and honoring all who were lost, who served, and who continue in service to our communities and Country as a whole.

This year, please also join the Magna Community for the Magna Veterans Memorial American Flag Retiring Ceremony ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ at 5:00 PM at Veterans Park. Members of UFA 111 and VFW Post #7398 will take part in the Replace the Rope/American Flag ceremony ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ, a powerful moment of respect and honor.

Together, letโ€™s continue to remember the lives lost, thank the heroes, support those in active service in our military and public service, honor those who served at Ground Zero, and show our love for this nation. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

We are happy to report that Mayor Eric Barney and City Council fully support the 911 Magna Remembers Memorial Project, and we are in the process of final funding for the install and plaques for this unique piece. It is a testament of appreciation to our first responders as much as it is a memorial to the fateful events of that day.

More details to come, especially for the Dedication Ceremony on Wed., Sept. 11, 2024 at 7PM

Our artist, Robyn Twitchell, of Twitchell Fine Art working on our 911 Magna Remembers Memorial Sculpture. The piece is nearly done! This was taken in May. He has since "rusted it" and added some other authentic tweaks. We're so excited to provide this for the community. It will take up residency at the NEW UFA #102 Station located on Historic Magna Main St.

Typically, we would be gathering in person around this time on September 11th. Unfortunately, I am out of town this year, but I was determined to share this remembrance effort with you. Many thanks to all of you for your support of Mayor Dan Peay and I throughout the years. 2024 we will resume for the dedication of a special Magna Memorial Monument.

Please view with sound enable if you are able. Hope you enjoy this tribute video. Thank you to my friend, Ralph, for his patient assistance in making this video possible.

Best, Leese Ann
