ARCH Community Health Coalition of Western Kentucky

ARCH Community Health Coalition of Western Kentucky The ARCH Coalition is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Economic prosperity is closely tied to community health in rural America.

We work to advance health and wellness in rural western Kentucky by working with a broad base of community organizations to improve access to healthcare and support services for our citizens. We seek to help create a more prosperous, economically stable future for rural communities like ours by leveraging improved health, including the socioeconomic determinants of health, and by advancing equitab

le practices in all areas of healthcare, education, employment and social services. For instance, we work to develop long-term strategies to increase the quality and amount of accessible low-income housing to support stronger families and a more productive workforce. We work with community partners to improve availability of quality childcare. We are working to add access to substance use treatment and supportive housing options in the local area. With all the chaos, it's hard to remember sometimes that the regular business of our society and communities is continuing. The challenges we faced a year ago or five years ago or more, are still there. We still need to address our local housing availability issue. We still need to address our chronic shortage of affordable, quality childcare. We need to fill the gaps in early childhood education. We need to ensure a safe and secure retirement for our seniors. We need to deal with substance use. We need to do the things we need to do to make sure people have access to health care, including mental health.

It's easy to loose sight of all these things when it sometimes seems like the world is trying desperately to rip itself apart, but we have to keep our eyes on the ball. If we let these things fall through the cracks, we may never be able to get them on the right track again.

This is a new article, specifically about housing, and the picture it paints isn't very rosy. The good news is that there are paths forward. We just have to keep moving. The ARCH Community Health Coalition of Western Kentucky and our partners, like the Matchem Community Revitalization Corporation are working to build and healthy, prosperous, sustainable future for Hopkins County and the rest of rural western Kentucky.

The LIHTC is an unnecessarily complex and expensive mechanism to support low-income housing development.
