Katia found her calling by helping other women find theirs.

From the community of Santa Ana, Katia graduated as a computer technician through Mi Esperanza and never stopped learning. While working there, she earned a degree in psychology. Today she teaches computer courses to women and supports the youngest learners at the Rilyn Harper Learning Center, which opened in 2023, tutoring children from their earliest years through school age with everything her psychology training taught her.

The work changed her own family's life too. Katia now helps support her parents and sends her daughter to a bilingual school. "I'm very grateful for my job. I've been able to be a blessing to other women, and I have been blessed as well," she says.
Behind every woman Mi Esperanza trains is someone like Katia, passing hope forward. Read her full story at https://thewomenofmyhope.org/real-stories/2025/1/13/katiaandino

Last week, our cosmetology students put their skills to the test with exams in manicures, pedicures, styling, and blowouts! ✨

Cosmetology continues to be our most popular course, and for good reason. It equips women with practical skills that can lead to meaningful employment after graduation—whether working in an established salon or building their own business from home.

Every skill learned is another step toward confidence, independence, and a brighter future. We are so proud of our students and the progress they are making! 💕

August 17 is National Nonprofit Day, a moment to celebrate the organizations working to make life better for others.
At Mi Esperanza, that work has a name and a face. It's the woman learning to sew, the new salon owner, the mother taking her first computer class. Every one of them is proof that a little opportunity goes a long way.
This National Nonprofit Day, you can be part of the reason these stories keep happening. Honor the day with a gift that gives Honduran women the training and tools to build their own futures.

Motivation, Self-Esteem & Life Planning Workshop

Many of our women come from environments where self-esteem has never been nurtured, and self-confidence is difficult to find. Years of poverty, trauma, abandonment, or limited opportunities have often left them believing they have little value or little to offer.

This workshop equipped our cosmetology students with practical tools for personal growth by exploring the connection between motivation, healthy self-esteem, and intentional life planning. Students learned how confidence and self-awareness help them set meaningful goals, overcome obstacles, and make positive decisions. Through reflection and planning, they were encouraged to build a future with purpose, discipline, and hope.

Providing our students with an understanding of the connection between technical skills, mental well-being, and personal growth equips them with the tools they need to thrive, positioning them for lasting success in both their careers and their lives.

We are grateful to second-year Psychology Students from Universidad Tecnológica de Honduras for coming and investing in our students' success.

When the pandemic cost Wendy her job, she didn't wait for things to go back to normal. She built something new.
Wendy graduated from Mi Esperanza's cosmetology course in 2018 and went to work at a salon called Tameli's Place in Tegucigalpa, saving her earnings and buying equipment for a business of her own. Then March 2020 arrived and the job disappeared. Instead of giving up, she launched a mobile salon, bringing her services straight to her clients' homes, and it took off.
In 2022, Wendy finished the computer technology course and joined the Mi Esperanza microloan program to grow her business further. She paid the loan back on time. Today her salon helps support her family and keep her six children in school, and she's still signing up for courses to sharpen her skills.
Because of supporters like you, women like Wendy get the chance to build. Read her full story at https://thewomenofmyhope.org/real-stories/2025/1/13/wendyruizflores
