🚨🔥 MULTIPLE BRUSH FIRES IN MONROE COUNTY – AVOID IMPACTED AREAS 🔥🚨

Crews are actively battling multiple brush fires across Monroe County, with resources from several agencies working to contain the flames. Due to the extreme fire danger, we strongly urge everyone to AVOID the Cherohala Skyway in Tellico Plains and the Rafter Road/Highway 360 area.

‼️ CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ‼️
🚩 Winds up to 60+ MPH tonight
🚩 Extremely dry conditions & low humidity
🚩 HIGH RISK for rapid fire spread

⚠️ NO OUTDOOR BURNING! ⚠️
With these dangerous conditions, any spark could start a wildfire. Please do not burn anything until conditions improve.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our community and firefighters safe. Stay alert and avoid fire-affected areas. We’ll provide updates as they become available.

Congratulations to our very own, Firefighter Jake Quinn.
We were recently notified that he won the 2024 Loudon County hometown hero favorite firefighter of the year award from the News Herald.
Jake works on “B” shift and works hard everyday overseeing the entire fleet maintenance for our department.
We are proud of Jake for him being recognized with this award!

All the fire departments in the county need help. We’ve heard all the excuses. I can’t commit to (fill in the blank), I’m not always available, I’m too young/old, I don’t know anything about it. They are just excuses. We are all volunteers. We can when we can and we can’t when we can’t.

This is an incredible job you get paid for in ways that aren’t money. If you’ve ever thought about it, contact the VFD in your area. The hardest part, is walking through that station door the first time.

We all live in the communities we serve. How can you make a difference?

Every fire department across the country needs help.
