Hey, ya know something else cool about me and this program?! I will work with you and am more understanding than you can imagine. Work 3rd shift, need a 7 am pickup? 1st shift, need a 5am pickup? Ending a 2nd and need a midnight pickup? Missed the meals at the shelters? Low on funds? Just tired and don't wanna cook?! Just text or call me.
I got you. Man, I promise I get it.
If I don't have meals prepared, please know that I will still (and have been blessed to!) put together a complete care package for you and/or your family of whatever I have on hand.
I used to welcome everyone into my home freely and undiscerningly because I didn't have the correct boundaries set to protect my peace and pure soul because it wasn't being protected as something worth what it really is and it is invaluable. You can not purchase peace, love, or respect. It must be earned.
One of my regular neighborhood kids said "You're the best" when I brought out popsicles after they all already got cookies with their dinners. And everyone got 2. It's genuinely the LITTLEST things that end up mattering up so much and being what it's really all about.
At the end of 2013, after having my kids 14 months apart and with them being only 7mo & 21mo, I had to make a will at 23 years old because I was given a 50% chance to wake up and a 30% chance to ever walk again after a 2.5lb (benign) tumor that had disintegrated my tailbone was removed in an extremely high risk surgery by the LITERAL best specialists in their respective fields at Mayo Clinic. It was the largest of its kind of 15-18 ever, in the world.
Today, I cook to feed everyone, on my own two feet, my own two legs that still work, make sure no one gets left out, that everyone is SEEN, and bake for smiles and "you're the best"s. I may have forgotten what it feels like to NOT be in pain, but never once have I forgotten how to care. Some people need to be reminded sometimes and that's okay. We all get busy, we all have our own things going on, we all have to put ourselves first or we can be no good to anyone else.
I believe in the power of paying it forward, performing random acts of kindness, learning something new every day, acts of service and words of affirmation. All of these things play an incredibly vital role in my daily life and are values I hold dear and practice often. And I get to see how others are affected by my need to give. And if that means there's a little more good put out into the world, I'm good with that.
As always,
Love, light, & good vibes
Sarah Lee
