Over the past few weeks, our choirs have been hard at work studying choral compositions emerging from endangered languages as we prepare for MYC's December concert series "Vanishing Voices."
Singers and conductors are taking a deep dive into the way language can be a window into the soul of a culture, thinking about what is lost when a language disappears, and discovering how stories, traditions, and cultural heritage can gain new life in song. We're engaging with languages many of us have never encountered before, talking to native speakers, and gaining understanding of the way cultural groups from around the globe carry unique folkways, imagery, and instrumentation in their linguistic and musical heritage.
We're excited to share more about our singers' discoveries throughout the semester and hope you'll join us for "Vanishing Voices" on December 12 and 13 at the Middleton Performing Arts Center!
