‼️Climate case update: This week, fifteen Wisconsin kids who are suing the government over climate change filed a petition asking the State Supreme Court to take up their case. Rather than allow years to go by as the case works its way through the lower courts, our clients are asking the state's highest court to hear their case and protect their constitutional rights.

With legal representation from MEA, the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin reached a settlement in a lawsuit over the use of an herbicide that threatened wild rice beds within the Menominee Reservation. The settlement provides new protections for wild rice while giving the Tribe a greater voice in decisions affecting a resource that is central to Menominee culture, history and self-determination.

Last fall, Enbridge experts testified during a contested case hearing on permits for the project that there was zero risk of an aquifer breach.

Enbridge is responding to an aquifer breach on a $1 billion project to reroute its Line 5 oil and gas pipeline in northern Wisconsin.

After a pipeline accident at a Line 5 construction site in Iron County resulted in the largest oil and gas spill in Wisconsin history, Enbridge rushed to get Line 5 operating again by building an unauthorized bypass around the spill site—even though the DNR told Enbridge to stop.

Enbridge must be held accountable.

Next Wednesday, September 23, the Natural Resources Board will meet in Sturgeon Bay. We’re urging you to join us — in person or via Zoom — and tell the Board to revoke Enbridge’s Line 5 reroute permit.

The deadline for submitting written comments or registering to attend is 11 a.m. on September 16.

In an extraordinary letter sent on Thursday, DNR Karen Hyun warned Enbridge that construction on a temporary Line 5 bypass was unauthorized and told the company to stop. Enbridge appears to be racing ahead anyway.

This comes as Enbridge pushes to restart Line 5 following the August 25 pipeline rupture near Saxon — while serious questions about the spill and its environmental impacts remain unresolved.

Governor Evers has the authority to act. We’re calling on him to revoke Enbridge’s Line 5 permits.
