UW Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS)

UW Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS) Discovery-whether in the sciences, engineering, the arts, or the social sciences-is the cornerstone of our greatness as a university.

The Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URS) is dedicated to helping first- and second-year undergraduates get hands-on experience in research or other creative endeavors by working with UW faculty and research staff. Through the URS Program, students have the experience of working with a faculty or staff member who is pushing forward the frontiers of knowledge will transform what students learn in the classroom into reality and relevance.

UW-Madison’s annual Undergraduate Symposium is under two weeks away! Nearly 800 undergraduates will present their research, scholarly work, community-based projects, and creative achievements at this year’s event, making this the largest Undergraduate Symposium to date.

We invite you to join us on floor 2 and 3 of Union South on Friday, April 25th (9:30am - 4:15pm) to celebrate and support URS Scholars and other presenters where you will learn about undergraduate projects across the disciplines.

Bravo to all of the URS Scholars who presented at this year's Undergraduate Symposium. A big thank you to the Research Fellows who served as moderators!

“Presenting at the symposium made everything come together for me, and I felt a lot more confident in discussing what I did,” said Ashton Jenks, who presented last year about sexual dimorphism in Homo naledi, and who was a moderator at this year’s symposium. “Sometimes you don’t fully realize how much of an expert you have become until you talk to others outside your little research bubble.”

'Presenting at the symposium made everything come together for me, and I felt a lot more confident in discussing what I did,' said one student.

It was a pleasure to hear about research projects from current URS Research Fellows Isa Butz & Samantha Greco yesterday at Research in the Rotunda. Also presenting was former URS Scholar Sherrie Wu. It was a wonderful event where UW-Madison Chancellor Mnookin, legislators, state leaders, family and friends celebrated the achievements of outstanding undergraduate student researchers from across the University of Wisconsin System!

Several UW–Madison students shared their research in the Wisconsin State Capitol on March 8, in the annual 'Research in the Rotunda' event.
