June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month 💜
At SAIL, we know that Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia touch many lives—whether you are living with memory changes yourself, caring for a spouse, partner, sibling, parent, or dear friend, or simply concerned about your brain health as you age.
If this journey is part of your life, please know this:
You are not alone.
Caregiving can be rewarding, but it can also be exhausting, emotional, and sometimes overwhelming. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to take a break. And it’s okay to acknowledge that some days are harder than others.
For those experiencing memory changes, remember that a diagnosis does not define you. You are still the same person with a lifetime of experiences, wisdom, talents, and relationships that matter.
🧠 Ways to support brain health:
• Stay physically active
• Keep socially connected
• Challenge your mind through reading, puzzles, games, or learning something new
• Prioritize quality sleep
• Eat a healthy, balanced diet
• Manage stress and stay engaged in activities you enjoy
💜 Resources for Help and Support
• Alzheimer's Association – Information, education programs, local support groups, and a 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900)
• Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute – Education, memory screening information, and caregiver resources
• Dane County Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) – Local support, caregiver assistance, and community resources
• Family Caregiver Alliance – Practical tools and support for caregivers
At SAIL, we believe that connection matters. Sometimes the most important thing we can offer each other is a listening ear, a helping hand, or a reminder that we don't have to navigate life's challenges alone.
If you or someone you love is facing memory loss or caregiving challenges, reach out. There is support, there is hope, and there is a community that cares.
💜 Take care of your brain. Take care of each other. And remember—you matter.
