I wanted a few days to gather my thoughts from Saturday. But I wanted to thank everyone who voted for me to represent Wisconsin educators and schools in DC! I look forward to working with Jesse Martinez, Brent Bergstrom, and WEAC leaders to put our schools and our workers first. And I leave this election cycle with a greater respect and admiration for Rachael Poppe and Jeanne Schierstedt and their advocacy and leadership in our Union. I hope both consider running for positions in the future because we’re a better Union and a better state with their voices at the table.
If there’s one thing I learned during this last year, it’s how important Jessica Jones is to everything I do or hope to do. She designed the logo and all of the materials for the campaign. She listened to me and helped me craft my ideas and messages. And most importantly, she continues to love me and take me for who I am – when I’m stuck on something and not paying attention, or when I’m waking up in the middle of the night because I’m so riled up about some small thing happening in my Union. She brings me back to center and helps me be the best version of myself. And that version needs to center her and her needs, too.
I continue to strive to serve her, my Union, and our schools to the best of my abilities. And I’m grateful for the chance to do so. Solidarity!
