The Town of Madison is looking for a community leader to serve as our next Recreation Director. If you are passionate about this community, health & wellness, and bringing people together, this is the role for you!

The Job:

Create the Fun: You will plan and supervise a wide variety of year-round activities for residents of all ages—from youth sports to adult leisure.
Lead the Vision: Help us develop a strategic 5-year plan for our town's recreational future.
Get Involved: Represent the town at local favorites like Madison-Anson Days and manage our beautiful municipal parks.
Build the Team: Supervise seasonal staff and inspire volunteers to make our programs a success.
What You’ll Need:

Strong communication skills to handle our social media, news releases, and public meetings.
A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
Reliable proximity to Madison.
Schedule: 40 hours per week with established office hours, plus flexibility for evening and weekend events.

Good afternoon everyone,

I wanted to reach out to inform you that I have submitted my letter of resignation from my role as Recreation Director for the Town of Madison. I have accepted a new position that better aligns with my family’s current needs.

This week will be my final week serving as a full-time director. I will remain with the department in a part-time capacity through the end of March, or until a new Recreation Director is hired. With that, I have a few important notes to share.

First, I want to sincerely thank all of the families in our Recreation Department who helped make the transition to a full-time director a success. While there were certainly some bumps along the way, your patience, support, and understanding as this role was created and shaped have meant a great deal to me.

Second, while I am serving in a part-time role, email and phone will be the primary methods of contact. Social media operations will be paused, so please do not reach out through those platforms. You may contact me at [email protected] or by phone at 207-612-1889. My duties will primarily take place in the evenings, so I appreciate your patience if responses are not immediate.

Finally, I want to briefly address what lies ahead for the Recreation Department. At last night’s Select Board meeting, it was decided that a discussion will be held at the next Select Board meeting (January 26th at 6:30 PM) to discuss whether the town should continue with a full-time Recreation Director position. I strongly encourage all families—regardless of perspective—to consider attending and sharing their input. This decision will have lasting impacts on our community, and it is important that all voices are heard.

For those wondering, I will continue serving as the Head Football Coach at Madison High School and will remain involved with the Recreation Department in other capacities.

The Madison Recreation Department is pleased to introduce our newest Rec Sports program - Rookie Hoopers. This is a Co-Ed Basketball program for grades 1 and 2, aimed at teaching the basic fundamentals of basketball in preparation for the upcoming years of competitive play. We accept rookies of all skill levels and wish to create a fun and inviting environment. Parents are welcome to join as a helper by completing the Winter Rec sports helper application attached to the registration (only required if planning to help).

Rookie Hoopers will take place at Madison Elementary School Gymnasium for 6 Fridays - starting January 9th and ending February 13th - from 4-5PM. The Madison Elementary School Gymansium is booked out with practices and games, so any cancellations will result in no rescheduling or make up days.
