Lake County Food Pantry

Lake County Food Pantry The Lake County Food Pantry provides emergency food to residents of Lake County. The Food Pantry is overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

We operate using only monetary and food donations. The mission of the Food Pantry is to alleviate hunger for those in our community. Along with that basic function we have broadened our impact in the community, please read about our programs.

1. Emergency Food: The Food Pantry collects and delivers food to Interlakes Community Action Program (ICAP) where the food is given to people who need it.

Annually, about 450-500 families use this resource as a ‘bridge’ to other longer-term resources.

2. Holiday Food Baskets: We provide additional food to people during the holiday season. Individuals and families have commented how nice it is at Christmas to receive almost everything you need to make a traditional holiday dinner for the family.

3. Angel Tree: Since 1985, the Food Pantry has sponsored the Angel Tree which provides gifts to children at Christmas time. An angel, which represents the child’s Christmas wish, is hung from a Christmas tree and people from the community take the angel from the tree and purchase the gift. The gifts are returned to the Food Pantry and delivered for Christmas. The program is a huge success bringing smiles to many children’s faces! Recently, over 225 children received gifts.

4. School Supplies: Since 1995, the Food Pantry has sponsored the distribution of free school supplies to students attending any school in Lake County. Around 140 to 170 students receive school supplies using this program.

5. Kids’ Pantry: Beginning in 2010, the Food Pantry established the ‘backpack’ program. This program sends nutritious food home with younger children for the weekend. This year we will provide food for kids in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade.

May 9th was the USPS Food Drive in our area, and we received over 4,000 pounds of food! 🎉

A special thank you to Mary Becker and her 85-year-old mother, Opal, for sorting, weighing, and checking expiration dates on six pickup loads of donations. What a wonderful way to spend Mother’s Day!

Also -- A big shout out to all of the mail carriers for picking up the food. We truly appreciate you!

We truly can’t do what we do without the incredible support of our community. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this such a success!

Backpack Program Update!

Our amazing residents and volunteers came together and filled 70 weekend food bags for local children in need. These bags will be delivered to ORR, Chester, and Head Start to help ensure kids have food over the weekend.

We are so proud of our residents for doing their part to support hungry children in our community. Every bag makes a difference!

THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the Lake County Food Pantry’s 43rd Christmas Food and Angel Tree event such a success!

On a very chilly Saturday, December 13, the spirit of Christmas was shared with 213 Lake County families, including 351 children. Together, we provided more than 6,000 pounds of food and over 700 Angel Tree gifts. None of this happens without the incredible generosity of our donors and the many volunteers who give their time, energy, and hearts.

A special thank you to KJAM Radio for their outstanding coverage and support, Sunshine Foods for their help, and to Gary’s Bakery, Montgomery Furniture, and the Madison Public Library for hosting Angel Trees. We are also deeply grateful to the City of Madison for the essential use of the Armory.

Finally, heartfelt thanks to Prostrollo Motors and Rick Brownlee for their long-standing and generous support of this cherished Christmas tradition.

Because of you, Christmas was brighter for hundreds of families in our community.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
