A word can reveal what we believe. It can express whom we serve. It can acknowledge sin, ask for help, offer forgiveness, or confess Jesus as Lord.
But Scripture never asks us to stop at words alone. It calls us to a life that corresponds to the truth we profess.
-If you are excusing sin, stop making peace with what God calls wrong.
-If you are hiding sin, bring it honestly before God.
-If you have harmed someone, take responsibility and seek reconciliation where appropriate.
-If you are struggling, do not confuse struggle with surrender. Seek help, resist temptation, and keep turning toward Christ.
-If you are trusting in your own goodness, look to Jesus Christ, who died and rose again.
-If you confess Him as Lord, seek to live under His authority.
Do not merely speak the language of faith. Believe Christ, confess what is true about your sin, receive the forgiveness He provides, and walk in the new life He gives. We are not called to make sin our master. We are called to belong to Christ. And when we stumble, we are not directed to despair or pretend we have not sinned. We are directed back to our faithful Savior, who is our advocate before the Father.
Grace does not give us permission to continue in sin. Holiness does not mean we never need grace. Romans 6 explains why sin must not reign over us. First John 1:8–2:2 explains why we must be honest about sin and why Christ remains our advocate when we fail.
