On Sunday, February 8, we prepped Betsy to clock in for our Piggy Uber shift! 🐷🐷🚙
Team members Amber and Julie drove to Milwaukee to pick up Laverne and Shirley and transport them to their temporary foster home in Chicago.

We followed tradition and treated the ladies to a donut from to start their journey to their new lives! They may have experienced some trauma on the truck that they jumped or fell from so we wanted to make sure they knew some car rides involve sweet treats 🍩

Laverne and Shirley will both be spayed next week and is fundraising to cover the costs of those surgeries. We hope you will consider a donation to help these ladies live their very best lives. 🩷

🚨 New Rescues: LAVERNE & SHIRLEY 💕

These two precious large breed piglets were found as strays and picked up by Milwaukee Animal Control. These babies are what we call ‘truck jumpers’. This means they escaped the meat industry by jumping or falling off of a truck during transport!

Laverne and Shirly are bright, curious, and so playful. It's beyond our comprehension how anyone could see these babies and decide that they should be slaughtered at 6 months old and turned into a packaged product at a grocery store..

We are so THANKFUL that they were able to save themselves during transport.. but we are equally devastated for all those piglets who were not able to get away.

We worked with Milwaukee Animal Control, who was able to coordinate getting these girls tested for PRRS and Mycoplasma prior while still in their care. Both girls tested negative for the diseases, which is a huge deal!

Amber and Julie of helped us with transport to get these two sweet ladies to Chicago. They transported them to our volunteer Vanessa, who then fostered them through Wednesday. Now, they are being fostered with our executive director, April, for a couple of weeks.

Laverne and Shirley will be heading to the University of Illinois Large Animal Clinic next week for their spays, vaccinations, and health certificates in preparation for transport to their new home - !

Garnsey's had decided that LuLu needed a friend, and we said "Say no more!" 😂❤️❤️

We are SO excited for these little love bugs and cannot wait to watch them grow!

If you would like to donate towards their vet bills, please know that it means the world to us!!!

Please consider a donation to Saving Snouts to help them cover their medical bills during this extremely scary and fragile circumstance 💔

I’m not even sure how to even start writing this. Our social media has been quiet and I apologize. We have been living an absolute nightmare.

As you all know our passion is short and long term special needs pigs. We have encountered so many medical dilemmas, some took a whole lot of research to properly help them.In 10 years I have never encountered what we have been going through.

If I am being honest I don’t know how I will ever be the same.

Our largest barn here that is home to some of our longest residents has been suffering through a devastating case of mycoplasma pneumonia. We believe it came in through the straw. There can be various ways but this is one of the most common causes along with moisture in the barn from the crazy cold temperatures on alot of winter days.

Wisconsin winters can be absolutely brutal for animals. This is the main reason we have well insulated heated barns with insulated raised beds,it isn’t a luxury here it’s a must. On cold days they spend them inside mostly and who can blame them but unfortunately this can also contribute to pneumonia.

We take every precaution knowing how winters are here. We clean their barns daily, we wash all their food and water bowls daily. We work so hard to provide a healthy safe environment. None of this feels fair, and to be honest none of this even feels real but sadly it is.

Some pigs have recovered almost instantly while others are recovering but have taken days. Some are still severely sick but fighting. I don’t even know how to comprehend this yet but this has taken the lives of four beautiful pigs including Willow, Ollie, Moe and Roman.

Currently we are in a race against time with necropsy results. We have preliminary results but many more details are needed. We are working with our vets, the state vet and other knowledgeable rescue friends. The main problem is the bacteria found is resistant to the most common antibiotics to treat pneumonia. We have figured out one that we are hoping will be our answer.

I’m mentally and physically exhausted beyond what I ever thought I could endure. But right now I don’t even have the time to grieve because there is 18 pigs counting on me to stay strong and help them fight through this wicked illness.

I’m going to list the beautiful pigs that are still fighting or recovered and live in that barn. This barn is mostly “Littles”I’m going to list them according to how sick they are starting with the ones struggling the most

🐽Buddy( 🌈 miss you forever)
🐽Hamilton (🌈 miss you forever)
🐽Oliver(severely sick)
🐽Lady(🌈miss you forever)
🐽Dawson ( sick)
🐽Percy (sick)
🐽Bocca ( sick)
🐽Tilly (sick)
🐽Olive ( recovering)
🐽Arnold ( recovering)
🐽Lucky ( recovering)
🐽Ellie Mae (recovering)
🐽Charlotte (recovering)
🐽Cash (recovering)
🐽Bindi Sue ( recovering)
🐽Asha
🐽Zoey
🐽Pugsley

They’re receiving two antibiotics, some are receiving Lasix, appetite stimulant and steroids. They’re also receiving liquid IV, vitamin boosters and other natural supplements to help with recovering. As you can imagine this has cost thousands of dollars that we weren’t planning on. We have spent close to a thousand dollars just on needles and syringes alone.

The entire barn has been turned into a hospital. There is no hospital facility that could’ve taken on 23 pigs. Luckily we have great local vets willing to come here.

I will try to answer any questions you have but please be patient.I have been in by them night and day with very few free minutes in a day.

I know I shared a video of Willow and please know I will be doing the same for Ollie, Moe and Roman when I am emotionally able to. Right now I just don’t have it in me, I’m so broken what feels like beyond repair.

Please send all your prayers and good thoughts to the 18 beautiful babies in that barn🙏I will keep you all updated on their progress ❤️‍🩹🏥🩺

Any help with this enormous medical cost would be so greatly appreciated. Blanket donations are also still greatly needed

Thank You Saving Snouts family

Pic is Buddy who is one of the four who is still on the severe list😔🙏

A quick update regarding the event tomorrow 🩷

Unfortunately, Blooming Buddies will not be attending the Vegan Pop-Up in Milwaukee tomorrow.

One of our cofounders, Anna, is navigating profound grief after losing two deeply loved animal companions in the span of one week. 💔
We believe in honoring both the animals who shape our lives and the humans who care for them, and right now that means making space for rest, mourning, and healing.

We are so grateful to Becky for including us in this event and we look forward to many more events in the future! 🐷

Rest easy, June and Dewey 🌈 You were so loved.

We can’t wait to see y’all! 💕🐷
