We are so proud that our longtime volunteer, Niki, is running the Army Ten-Miler to raise funds for Team Honor Flight this Sunday! Go, Niki, go! 🏃♀️
Meet Our Army Ten-Miler Runner: Niki Sollinger!
We are thrilled to highlight Niki as she takes on the Army Ten-Miler for Team Honor Flight! Here is a little more about her in her own words:
1. Tell us a bit about yourself (background, family, where you live, and what you do):
"Born and raised in Wisconsin, I moved to Arlington, VA after law school and have been here ever since! With my background in law, I currently work in cyber policy in Washington, DC."
2. Why did you decide to participate in the Army Ten-Miler this year?
"I've participated in four previous Army Ten-Milers in honor of a high school classmate's brother who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. It's special to run in 2026 to honor him and support Honor Flight."
3. What does it mean to you to represent and run for the Honor Flight organization?
"Anything to help get more veterans to DC is worth it! I'm excited to support such a wonderful organization!"
4. Do you have a personal connection to a veteran, or what part of the Honor Flight mission resonates with you most?
"Both! My Grandpa retired as an Army Captain after serving in World War II. In 2004, my mom and I had the opportunity to fly my Grandpa and Grandma from Wisconsin to the dedication of the World War II Memorial. My Grandpa's trip to Washington, DC helped him open up about his experience serving in World War II. After that experience, I realized how important it was for veterans to have a memorial so veterans can reflect and find solace, and the American people never forget the sacrifices our veterans made for us. Since 2011, I've volunteered with Badger Honor Flight, the Honor Flight Hub based out of my hometown of Madison, WI. Currently, I'm a tour guide and love meeting the veterans when they arrive in DC. As we drive around Virginia and Washington, I share the history and importance of the memorials and aim to provide a memorable experience for the veterans and guardians. Over the years, I've served as a guardian to a dear family friend, witnessed my friends bring their fathers to DC, and get emotional at every welcome at DCA. I'm extremely proud to be a part of Badger Honor Flight and work with a wonderful, dedicated team to serve so many veterans."
5. Why is honoring our veterans so important to you?
"Honoring America's veterans is so important to me. I see my Grandpa in each veteran - a humble person who, when called to service, answered the call knowing the sacrifice. I'm honored to run the Army Ten-Miler to honor America's veterans."
Let’s show Niki some love and support her run!
