Friends of Lake View Hill Park Lake View Hill Park is located on the north side of Madison, WI, on the grounds of the former Lake View Sanatorium.

In 2006 Dane County designated all 48 acres surrounding this historic site as a conservancy park. Lake View Hill Park is a relatively small Dane County Park, made up of 27 acres of woodland and 15 acres of meadow. Parking is located near the building and there are several trailheads throughout the park. There is a .5 mile walking/running loop within the woodland restoration area and a .4 mile walking/running loop that runs through the two meadows and along the lawn. An informational kiosk about Lake View Hill is located on the West side. This park, with its easy terrain and various ecological habitats makes for a fun visit with all members of the family. Dogs are allowed, though must always be kept on-leash and their waste picked up and packed out. Please maintain a "Leave No Trace" attitude and pack out all trash that you happen to bring into the park with you. Winter recreation activities include snowshoeing and sledding down the main hill on the great lawn. A map of the park and trail systems can be viewed here:https://parks-lwrd.countyofdane.com/ParkDocument/GetFile/179/LakeViewHill_Overview.pdf

We share the sad news that Dorothy Wheeler has left us. We thank Dorothy for the wonderful Lake View Hill Park that we all know and love. Dorothy was our Dane County Supervisor from 2004 to 2010 and led the effort to rezone and designate Lake View Hill as a Dane County park, permanently saving it from proposed development. Thank you and RIP Dorothy. Be sure to visit Dorothy's bench on the hill sometime and say thanks.

Dorothy Charlotte H**p Wheeler, a beloved mother, dedicated teacher, and elected county government official, passed away peacefully at the age of 91.

UPDATE: The Friends group is thrilled to announce that a new pollinator garden will be installed near the water reservoir. Grab your gloves and come help with the planting next Saturday, June 20th at 9am. Meet near the water reservoir! For a little background - 87% of the world's flowering plants, including shrubs and trees, depend on pollinators to reproduce. Wisconsin pollinators include over 400 species of bees-the most efficient pollinator-as well as butterflies, moths, flies, beetles, wasps, and hummingbirds. Many species are in decline and some are already rare. In partnership with Dane County Parks we will be planting several native species that deer are not fond of!

Update on the path near the water tower!! It has been newly graded and new sand surface laid today by Operation Fresh Start! For many years the black surface has been ripped or folded over in spots so this is a big improvement. Thanks OFS!
