** National Peace Officers Memorial Day **

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. We take this time to recognize the dedication and commitment of all officers serving this nation, and reflect on those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for the profession.

We especially remember Dane County Deputy Rick Treadwell who died from Covid-19 complications. Rest in peace, Rick...we have the watch from here.

In 2020, the law enforcement profession lost 362 LE in the line of duty. As of today, we have lost 125 LE in 2021. One is too many!!! To learn more about the lives of those we've lost, visit the Officer Down Memorial Page: https://www.odmp.org/

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! Thank you to our 911 Dispatchers who work behind the scenes as first responders. They answer calls for servcie, get police/fire/EMS where they need to go and save lives, among so many other things. They are a huge piece of our LE family! Thanks for all you do!!
