Raksha Bandhan is an Indian holiday that celebrates the love between brothers and sisters. On this day, a sister and a brother will each tie a rakhi (threaded amulet) around the other's wrist. They will promise to protect each other and pray for the other's well-being.

New episode alert!

This month on Interfaith Voices Podcast, we're focusing on the Poll Chaplain Program, a partnership between WIVEC and the Wisconsin Council of Churches that places interfaith chaplains at polling locations across Wisconsin to offer a peaceful, steady presence on election day.

Instead of our usual interview format, this episode brings you the audio from our Faithful Voices in a Critical Hour webinar series, presented by this year's Poll Chaplain Organizer, Breanna Illéné, who also serves as Director of Ecumenical Innovation and Justice Initiatives at the Wisconsin Council of Churches.

We're recruiting new chaplains right now, so if you've ever wondered what the role involves, this is a great place to start. And even if you're not in Wisconsin, similar poll chaplain programs exist across the country, so it's worth a listen wherever you're from.

Election Day is coming, and we're recruiting Poll Chaplains and Poll Chaplain Assistants to serve at 100 polling locations across Wisconsin this November 3!

No ordained clergy required — we have a role for everyone. Poll Chaplains (clergy with CPE training) are paired with Poll Chaplain Assistants (open to all!) at each site to offer a peaceful presence and support voters waiting in line.

Pick a time that works for your schedule. Bring a friend, or we'll pair you with one. All volunteers get free online training in active bystander skills, de-escalation, nonpartisan guidelines, and more — plus a vest and hat to wear on the day.

As Rev. Karen Hagen put it: "Our sole job is to provide peace and calming care for those who are waiting in line and to be of assistance any way we can."
