Which do you believe is greater?

That's what we asked at our 73rd Annual Dinner last week.

Two ideas were presented on screens between a massive ">" symbol (created with the help of Hiebing and Suttle-Straus). Attendees were invited to rotate the symbol toward whichever idea they believed was greater than the other.

30 pairs of ideas cycled through over the course of the networking reception. While the symbol kept spinning, the experience made it clear that all everyone in the room was aligned on helping our region move .

Last week, at our 73rd Annual Dinner, we gathered to celebrate Greater Madison’s advantages, align on the challenges ahead and understand what it means to move toward greater.

We know the recipe for success. We have all the ingredients we need. Now, we must turn that recipe into a scalable, repeatable formula to create prosperity that is broadly shared and doesn't collapse on itself.

A symbol carries meaning only through shared knowledge and community understanding.

A "x" only signifies multiplication because we've been told it does. A "+" conveys addition because we say so.

Through our collective effort, our region has become a symbol of growth, innovation and problem-solving. A place moving forward toward something greater.

Places, like meanings, change. Mutual recognition of challenges, the ability to work together on solutions, readiness to adapt to shifting needs — these are how places endure.
