Make a few calls and you could help the geese.

There’s a misconception by many that killing geese is the only way to manage conflicts between people and wildlife.

It isn’t.

Communities across the country have successfully used humane, nonlethal approaches such as habitat modification, egg addling, public education, and other long-term strategies to reduce conflicts without killing healthy animals.

Madison has expanded some nonlethal methods over the years, but lethal removal remains part of the plan.

If you would like to see Madison move toward fully humane goose management, please respectfully contact the Madison Parks Department and ask them not to kill the geese this year.

We rarely use , but this is urgent and timely. It appears that Ridglan Farms may be in the process of selling off the remaining 500 beagles to laboratories instead of allowing them the chance to finally go to loving homes.

Please take about 15 minutes to help speak up for these dogs. Their lives depend on people being willing to say something now.

This simple tool can be used to send emails to potential buyers asking them to choose compassion and not purchase these beagles: https://stopridglan.netlify.app/

A few years ago, Alliance for Animals spoke with Fox 47 about Madison’s goose management policies and the need for humane, nonlethal alternatives.

Unfortunately, this issue is still not resolved today.

While some nonlethal methods have expanded over the years, lethal removal remains part of a management plan that is now more than a decade old.

We believe Madison can do better for the geese who live in our parks and waterways.

Please help us encourage compassionate, nonlethal solutions.

Most Madison residents have no idea this still happens.

Each summer, the Madison Parks may round up and kill geese living in the park system using taxpayer-funded USDA Wildlife Services operations.

While some nonlethal methods have expanded over the years, lethal removal still remains part of a management plan that is now more than a decade old.

We believe it’s past time for Madison to fully embrace humane, nonlethal goose management.

If you would like to help, please respectfully contact the Madison Parks Department and ask them not to kill the geese this year.

Thank you to everyone who has been paying attention and speaking up.

Animal refuge groups say they have agreed to buy nearly 1,500 beagles at a Wisconsin dog breeding and research business that was the site of a violent clash earlier this month between activists trying to break in and police who repelled them with tear gas and pepper spray.

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) — Ridglan Farms appears to be selling nearly 1,000 of its beagles to a rescue group which seeks to offer them a new life.

Well… that’s awkward. 😅

When Ridglan Farms went looking for help…
they got a “no thanks.”

Even Rep. Mark Pocan isn’t buying what they’re selling.

🐾 Maybe it’s time to stop asking for favors…
and start answering for the dogs.

Too sad. The Vilas zoo is the last place a polar bear should be. But hey, if you think of a zoo as a kind of stamp album, then this sort of makes some sort of hideous sense.

A 10-year-old polar bear named Nora has arrived at Henry Vilas Zoo after a cross-country journey from Oregon state.

UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who contacted the Co-op and shared concerns. We’ve now heard back from them and they’ve confirmed that glue traps are not used to catch mice at any of their locations. They use mechanical traps for mice, which are checked regularly and any mice are released outside.

They also shared that a small number of glue traps were temporarily placed for insects after a produce delivery issue, but the vendor has now been instructed to remove those traps at all locations.

While we don’t support the use of glue traps for any animals, including insects, we are encouraged that the Co-op responded to community concerns and is taking steps to remove the traps entirely. We’ll also be checking back to make sure this follow-up happens as promised.

This is a really positive outcome, and it shows that when customers speak up respectfully, businesses do listen. Thank you for caring and for taking action — it truly made a difference. 💚🐭Glue traps cause prolonged suffering and are widely considered inhumane. We’re asking the Co-op to switch to more humane, non-lethal pest control methods, which better reflect their values and what many customers expect.

Madison-area friends — it’s been brought to our attention that W***y Street Co-op (all locations) is currently using glue traps to catch mice. If you’re willing, please take a moment to call or write and politely share your concern. You can use this message (or your own words):

I’m concerned after learning that glue traps are being used in your stores. I’m troubled by this because glue traps cause prolonged suffering and are widely considered inhumane. I kindly ask that W***y Street Co-op stop using glue traps and switch to more humane, non-lethal pest control methods. This would be much more in line with the Co-op’s values and with what many customers expect and appreciate. Thank you for listening and for considering this request.
