AgrAbility of Wisconsin is a cooperative partnership between The University of Wisconsin-Extension and Easter Seals Wisconsin. AgrAbility of Wisconsin exists to assist farm workers and farm families affected by disabilities by providing education, technical assistance, on-site consultation services, and identification of potential funding resources. Since 1991 we have served over 3,000 clients wit

h a 97% success rate- meaning that 97% of our clients continue to farm after our services are provided. AgrAbility staff provides on-site consultative services and assessments to determine farm modifications and adaptive technology that can be used to assist farm workers with disabilities. Modifications can range from adding a set of extra tractor steps to completely redesigning a milking parlor. Services are provided free of charge to farm workers and farm families dealing with the effects of a disability. Impairments can range from arthritis, amputations, and respiratory illnesses to cognitive disabilities and hearing or visual impairments. All services are provided at the home or farm and are confidential.

In a recent University of Wisconsin-Madison campus visit, Amanda Scrima and Yoshka Munyon from the office of Representative Scott Fitzgerald, along with Laura Phillips of the UW Madison Office of Federal Relations connected with AgrAbility of Wisconsin staff.

While learning more about the program’s impact on Wisconsin agriculture and benefit to Wisconsin’s farmers, the group had the opportunity to try out some of the assistive technology utilized by clients. A tour of the UW-Madison Department of Biological Systems Engineering laboratory showcased first-hand the connection between the department and adaptive tools helping farmers with disabilities and limitations to continue farming. Special thanks to the UW Madison Office of Federal Relations arranging the visit!

The Wisconsin Farm Center offers support groups, counseling resources, and a 24/7 Farmer Wellness Helpline to help Wisconsin farmers and farm families through difficult seasons.

There is hope. There is support. And there are people who understand.

Enjoy a night out while raising awareness of farmer mental health! The Barnstorming Tour of America is coming to Taylor, Wis. Featuring Jeff Corle, former dairy farmer and writer of the song, 'Empty barn", he seeks to raise awareness, inspire conversation, and support the mental well-being of farmers everywhere. This free concert is hosted by Patricia and Steve Kling and their family at the Homestead Event Barn. Check out all the details for the family-friendly event below!
