What a day! Yesterday, we teamed up with Madison College to host the Healthcare Workforce Education and Apprenticeship Summit — 120 healthcare leaders, educators, and community partners all in one room, talking about how to grow healthcare talent in south-central Wisconsin.

The best part? Watching industry, education, and workforce partners dig into solutions together — from labor market trends to apprenticeship strategies that are working right now.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and shared ideas — this momentum is just getting started.

Seven new surgical technologist registered apprentices just took a major step toward their careers in healthcare. Yesterday, we held an intake session for our Apprenticeship Building America 2 (ABA2) grant — and we couldn't be more excited to welcome this second cohort.

Through ABA2, these apprentices receive more than just on-the-job training. The grant provides wraparound support — including access to supportive services, mentorship, and resources to help remove barriers that can make completing a program feel out of reach. Apprentices earn wages while they learn, work toward a nationally recognized credential, and build real skills alongside experienced surgical teams.

This is workforce development working the way it should. Congratulations to our newest cohort — we're rooting for you every step of the way.

As May and National Foster Care Awareness Month come to a close, we're reflecting on a truly special moment — Hands Around the Capitol on May 28th.

Independent Living participants and staff, and Youth Advisory Council members joined families, partners, and community members at Hands Around the Capitol — an event bringing real attention to young adults and families with lived experience in the child welfare and youth justice systems.

Big thanks to Wisconsin Department of Children and Families for coordinating such a momentous event and to the partners for showing up and providing support!

We love seeing our team get the recognition they deserve! 👏 Jenny is the real deal — our participants are lucky to have someone so genuinely committed in their corner. Thanks for the shoutout Wisconsin Workforce Development Association

Employment & Training Association

Jennifer has been a WIOA Career Planner at the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin (WDA 10) for almost 10 years.

One of her favorite cases involved a participant who could not obtain a driver’s license after incarceration, making him unable to return to his previous position as a mechanic. After focusing on transferable skills, training, second-chance employers, and receiving help from partner programs, he secured a maintenance position at a manufacturing company within four months.

“It was inspiring to observe his humility, positive attitude, and grounded approach throughout his job search, despite the challenges he faced,” Jennifer said. “It is also a reminder of how collaboration between partner programs can directly contribute to success and overall stability.”
