MEASLES, a few interesting facts

Measles was practically zero in the US until parents forgot or never knew what it was like not to have vaccines or were hoodwinked into believing vaccines were worse than the diseases and deaths they prevented. Here's what's happening now with measles.

[Items in square brackets are additions added as explanations.]

"Routine coverage for kindergarteners dropped to 92% for DTaP and 92.4% for MMR, both below the 95% threshold experts say is needed to prevent outbreaks. That’s landing in the middle of a rough year for measles specifically: the U.S. has logged 2,566 cases in 2026, a 35-YEAR HIGH, with active outbreaks in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Utah, and 93% OF PEOPLE DIAGNOSED WERE UNVACCINATED. The spread is serious enough that it threatens the country’s official “measles eliminated” status, a decision the Pan American Health Organization is expected to make in November."

[Information above is from the Centers for Disease Control]

[DTaP is the vaccine for Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis which is Whooping Cough. Two doses of MMR provide about 97% protection against measles and rubella, and 88% against mumps. The standard schedule gives the first dose at 12–15 months and the second at 4–6 years old.]

[Wisconsin Public Radio reports that for the cases of measles in Wisconsin, "ALL BUT ONE of the 23 people with confirmed or suspected cases was UNVACCINATED." The WPR report also noted that "If a person comes in contact with someone who is infected with the virus, the CDC said 9 out of 10 people will contract measles unless they’re protected [vaccinated]. ONE IN FOUR PEOPLE ARE HOSPITALIZED AFTER CONTRACTING THE VIRUS, according to DHS.]

LUNA's GROCERIES, on Red Arrow Trail, is applying to sell individual liter-sized cans of beer. Note that Luna's apparently can already separately sell 24-ounce cans and 32-ounce quart bottles of beer since they are on display in the refrigerated case there.

Public hearing in front of the Alcohol License Review Committee coming up for Luna's grocery story on Red Arrow Trail opposite MacDonald's.

WEDNESDAY, 8/19/2026 5:30 PM, either in person or online

Request is to allow the store to sell single liter-sized containers of beer. Apparently the current license for Luna's does not permit this, though on a visit to Luna's one can see that single 24-ounce cans and single 32 ounce glass bottles of beer are for sale.

FYI: One liter of beer is 33.8 US fluid ounces—usually rounded to 34 oz.

Also, from the internet: for a 150-pound male, consuming about 36 ounces (three 12-ounce standard beers at 5% alcohol by volume) in ONE HOUR will push his blood alcohol concentration past the 0.08% legal driving limit, which is a standard legal threshold for being considered drunk. Mild impairment begins with the first drink.

STILL NOT SURE OF WHO TO VOTE FOR TODAY?

First, go to and check who's on your ballot and where your polling place is.

Second, read what the candidates had to say for themselves in the League of Women Voters' Candidates' Answers: https://publuu.com/flip-book/446565/2527637

Third, take you official picture ID - most probably your Wisconsin Driver License or US passport and get to your polling place before 8 pm.

Fourth, on the ballot, first choose which primary you are voting in and fill in the circle by that party. Then vote for your selected candidates.

VOTING WORDS TO THE WISE... for today's Partisan Primary election

IN TODAY'S PRIMARY ELECTION, of course bring your official PICTURE ID: most of us will us be using our Wisconsin driver's license but a passport works too. It would be well to check your voter registration first at because if for some reason you are no longer registered, you will also need proof of residence to register at your polling place

Once you get the ballot, fill the bubble in front of the party you will be voting in. YOU CAN ONLY VOTE FOR ONE PARTY'S CANDIDATES. If you don't fill in the party's bubble and by mistake vote in another party's primary, NONE of your votes will count.

The ballot is L O N G, very long. You might have to look way down the ballot to find the first race for the party you choose. Best to go to to be prepared.

Remember to vote if you didn't already early vote or vote by absentee ballow.
