Great day today at the Madison County DHR Foster Family Appreciation Picnic. We teamed up with Grandparents as Parents and Foster House Project to make sure our families know of all of the support they have. Thank you to all of the foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers as well as the Case workers too!

We were even able to present lots of new carbon monoxide detectors to DHR, courtesy of Foster House Project to help those caregivers that may be lacking a few extra things in order to get licensed. Thanks! 💙

Families, don't miss this FREE event next month! Join the Center for Opioid Research, Education, and Outreach for an impactful and informative evening designed for students in grades 6–12 and their families. You'll hear from Coach Bruce Pearl, Dr. Dave Anderson, and Compact 2020. This event will raise awareness about the dangers of today’s illicit substances and misuse of prescription medications, and how these challenges affect teens, families, and communities.

Plus, I hear Coach Pearl may be giving away from autographed balls at the end. ;)

Honest conversations about substance abuse, mental health, and real-life challenges.

🚨 URGENT NEED: WE ARE COMPLETELY OUT OF DUFFLE BAGS!

When a child enters foster care, The Den helps make sure they have new clothes, shoes, hygiene items, and other essentials to get them through those first difficult days.

As of yesterday, our shelves are completely out of duffle bags to pack those items in.

And the need isn't slowing down.

❤️ 182 children served so far in 2026
❤️ 36 children in July alone, our busiest month this year
❤️ Nearly $20,000 in essentials provided

Every child who comes through The Den deserves something of their own to carry their belongings in. Not a trash bag!

We urgently need new duffel bags to keep up with the number of children entering care. You can help in two ways:

Today, we join millions around the world in remembering Dolly Parton. 💙

Dolly's legacy reaches far beyond the music, movies, rhinestones and unmistakable voice we all knew. She never forgot where she came from, and she spent a lifetime giving back, especially to children.

Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she helped put millions of books into the hands of children. And beginning last year, that legacy became even more meaningful to our community as every foster child in Alabama, aged 0-5, became eligible to receive free books through the program. 📚

For those of us who serve foster, adoptive and kinship families, Dolly's life is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when we choose to invest in children with kindness and love.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the generosity, and for always believing in the potential of every child.

A life well lived. A legacy that will keep giving for generations.

Rest well, Dolly.

Thank you Dr. Haley Phillippe with The Center for Opioid Research, Education, and Outreach for presenting at last night's meeting! And thank you to COACH for dinner!

She spoke about the newest threat to our families, and especially children - gas station drugs. Did you know that it only takes a tiny portion of fentanyl, like the tip of a lead pencil, to be fatal? Scary stuff but we're glad to know what to look for now.

She even shared how your children may be hiding drugs in plain sight, with things ordered on Amazon. 😳

Join us next month as we have Tausha Knight with Madison County Schools present on Applied Educational Neuroscience (AEN) and strategies to help children, and adults, self regulate.

It was great connecting with all of the DHR workers and other organizations this morning during DHR's Provider fair!

We even brought a helper with us to pass out hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts. 😁💙🍩
