Nearly 50 people gathered in DeForest from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 20 for an event coordinated through the Veterans Community Action Network of South-Central Wisconsin to raise awareness of the needs of veterans while highlighting the work of community organizations in meeting those needs. Attendees heard a panel discussion featuring leaders in those organizations, mingled among themselves before and after the forum, and emerged with a greater sense of “who’s doing what” to help.

Panelists were veteran Byron Smith; Dane County Veterans Service Officer Dan Connery; Angie Nickels of Stand Down Madison; Adayta Axelson of WDVA's Veterans Outreach & Recovery Program; and Molly Lund of Porchlight. VetsCAN Vice President Keith Lang, a retired U.S. Army officer and seasoned social worker, moderated. Thanks to Lake Windsor Country Club for hosting, and to J.D. Engelhardt for taking the lead on organizing this well-received event.
