Friendly reminder...the Company has determined that any sliding in a Company vehicle is an at fault offense regardless of speed.
If you drive a Company vehicle and find that traction is compromised due to inclement weather or any other reason, please be sure to inform your manager (in writing; i.e. text or email) of the safety risks and get manager safety guidelines (in the same format; including proper speeds) prior to the use of a Company vehicle.
Safety manager, area manager and first level manager of the IEFS department have determined that sliding, even at 4 mph, is driving too fast for conditions. The GPS records of the Company corroborate the techs account of the incident and these managers determined that discipline of a 1 day suspension was in order.
To be clear, it is the Company’s standing, that any employee that has an accident due to slipping, sliding, etc., regardless of road conditions (ice, snow, rain, etc.), in a Company vehicle is at fault and will be disciplined.
Ice and snow are expected Friday and Saturday, so please remember...No job is so important, and no job is so urgent that we cannot take time to perform our work safely, and in an environmentally responsible manner. That also means that we are not required to drive in inclement weather if it poses a threat to our safety. Please be sure to inform your manager of the safety risks of driving in snowy and icy conditions and get his/her approval and guidance prior to leaving the garage. Be sure the manager’s guidance (in writing) includes a safe driving speed before departing.
