IST (Independent String Teachers of Madison)

IST (Independent String Teachers of Madison) The Independent String Teachers of Madison (IST) is a professional group of string Teachers in the Madison, WI area.

The idea of IST was conceived in the fall of 2002 at a concert in the home of Bob and Linda Graebner. In attendance was John Schaffer, Director of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music. Inspired by the level of work being done at the pre-college level in the Madison area, he had a vision that if the teachers formed an organization, they could provide even more educational opportuniti

es for the community. He offered to help get it started, and within a few weeks chaired a meeting at UW to explore the idea. This was the birth of the Independent String Teachers of Madison (IST), who then banded together to develop the artistic abilities of our students and to evolve our understanding of string pedagogy in ways which we could not accomplish on our own. We are a non profit 501(c)(3) corporation, and as we hold our 2nd Biennial Benefit Concert, our impact on the community is already present. We hold an annual recital series for students of all ages and levels in UW Morphy Recital Hall. We continue to hold master classes for students and pedagogy presentations for teachers with leading teachers and clinicians. We thank you for your support of IST as we provide educational opportunities for the greater Madison area.
