Ferst Readers

Ferst Readers Ferst Readers provides free books and literacy resources to children (birth to five) to promote early literacy and support family engagement. mail.

Preschool children, birth to five, registered for the Ferst Readers program receive a free, age-appropriate book at their homes monthly via U.S. Parents, educators, child development specialists, and Ferst Readers staff carefully select these books each year for our Read to Me Library™. We are proud that three-quarters of our books are published in Georgia, and that many Georgia authors are includ

ed in our book selections. A newsletter accompanies each book, with activity pages for the child, but more importantly, essential information for the parent. As research consistently shows, parent engagement is key to early learning success. Our monthly newsletters are county-specific, so it is a wonderful way to promote literacy/reading events locally, as well as recognize our sponsors publicly and on a regular basis.

These backpacks will be distributed throughout the community, unlocking doors to imagination, learning, and new opportunities for young readers. ✨

A sincere thank you to our volunteers and IHG for their commitment to early literacy and for helping us bring stories to life for so many children.

We also extend special appreciation to our Board Vice Chair Cynthia Czabala and Board Member Barbara Liesenfelt for their support and for making this initiative possible. Your dedication truly makes a difference.

0 Books = 0 Chance

61% of low-income families don’t have a single children’s book at home.

No books mean:
— No story time
— No early words
— No head start
Just a quiet gap that grows every year.

📚 This Literacy Month, you can change that. Join the Bright Futures Circle and help us deliver books and hope right to a child’s doorstep.

✨ Just $25/month gives 7 children a full year of books — that’s 84 chances to learn, dream, and succeed.

Celebrating Childhood Literacy in Dacula 📚

Ferst Readers was honored to partner with the Gwinnett County Public Library – Dacula Branch for Childhood Literacy Day, bringing together Mayor of Dacula Trey King, Councilman Denis Haynes, Jr., Gwinnett County Commissioner Jasper Watkins, Georgia State Librarian Julie Walker, Rep. Segun Adeyina, School Board Member Rachel Ruffin Stone, Library Executive Director Charles Pace, and GCPS Early Learning Director Kim Holland in a powerful show of commitment to early literacy.

Ferst Readers’ President and CEO, Davida Morgan-Washington, warmly welcomed the special guests and thanked them for their dedication to advancing childhood literacy. Thanks to the generosity of Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor, every child in attendance received a free book to take home—planting the seeds of a lifelong love of reading.

This collective effort demonstrates what’s possible when community leaders, educators, and nonprofits come together to support children’s success.
