Today the fire service lost not just a great fire chief, but a mentor, teacher, and friend. Chief Sam Usborne gave so much of himself to the fire service and to everyone lucky enough to know him. He wasn’t just a leader on the fire ground, but someone who cared deeply, shared his knowledge freely, and inspired us all to be better.

Chief, thank you for everything you taught us and for the way you lived with such dedication and heart. You will be missed more than words can say, but your impact will live on in all of us.

We extend our deepest condolences to Chief Usborne’s family and to our brothers and sisters of the Cazenovia Fire Department during this difficult time.

On Wednesday, September 17 at approximatly 12PM, contractors will sequentially implode 7 wind turbines at the Madison Wind Farm. Parts of Stone Road will be closed to traffic during the operation.

- Loud explosive sounds in the area. Please do not be alarmed.
- Temporary dust and brief traffic impacts near the site.

- Avoid Stone Road and follow posted detours.
- Do not stop along roadways.
- Consider bringing pets indoors and securing livestock if noise may disturb them.

ℹ️ History: The original Madison Wind Farm (built in 2000, 11.55 MW capacity) was New York State’s first commercial wind farm.

September 11, 2001 – We Remember

Today marks 24 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, when 2,977 lives were lost in an attack that forever changed our nation. We pause to honor the victims, their families, and the countless first responders who answered the call with unwavering courage.

In the days following the attacks, members of the Madison Fire Department defied directives and traveled to New York City to assist the FDNY in the aftermath at Ground Zero. Their actions reflected the highest traditions of service, sacrifice, and brotherhood within the fire service.

We are aware of an outage affecting the entire Oriskany Falls substation including Hamilton, hubbardsville, Brookfield, Madison, Clinton, and Augusta.

Due to the large volume of calls, the answering service is overwhelmed. The line crew has already been dispatched and we will keep you posted with any updates as they become available

🚧 Road Closure Notice: Center Road (Town of Madison)

Starting Monday, August 25, 2025, a portion of Center Road will be closed for a large culvert replacement.

📍 Location: Just south of the Center Rd / Quarterline Rd intersection
📆 Duration: Through Wednesday, September 18, 2025 (weather permitting)
➡️ Detour: Pickett Rd → Quarterline Rd

Please follow posted signs and use extra caution near the work zone. Thank you for your patience while crews complete this infrastructure upgrade.
