The Madison (Alabama) Community Band is an all-volunteer organization uniting individuals of different ages and backgrounds for a common passion - musical performance An all-volunteer organization, the band is comprised of musicians of all ages and backgrounds. Founded in 1993, the Madison Community Band continues a long tradition of community bands by providing musical performance opportunities f

or its members and promoting and encouraging the arts community in Madison county and surrounding communities. The band, which has grown from fifteen members to sixty-plus members, performs annually at community-wide events in Huntsville, Decatur and Guntersville, Alabama, as well as Fayetteville, Tennessee. Aptly named, the Madison Community Band is truly a “community” band. The band’s members come from a variety of backgrounds and represent a wide-range of ages, from middle school students to retirees. Nearly all of the band’s members have had previous ensemble experience, whether in high school, college or even professional ensembles. For many of the members, the Madison Community Band allows them to continue playing their instruments in a band setting, an opportunity that they would not have without the community band. If you are interested in joining the "100 Acre Band" and have at least two years of playing experience or private lessons, we need YOU! All sections are open to new members. Students are always welcome and encouraged to join us! There are no audition requirements or dues to join MCB, so what are you waiting for?

See the below message from Dave Ryan:

All,

I regret that I have made the decision to cancel the Madison Community Band’s Memorial Day appearance tomorrow.

There has been too much rain to be able to attend safely. Our chairs would sink into the ground when we sat down, our percussion equipment would do the same. Finally, the moisture from all the rain would play havoc on the woodwind instruments. There is also a continued chance of more rain.

The event itself is still on as of now, if anyone would like to attend as a spectator.

I look forward to seeing everyone Tuesday at rehearsal!

Thank you,
Dave

Summer rehearsals begin…

“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers (and sisters)…neither snow nor rain nor storm nor gloom of night stays these players from the swift rehearsal of their appointed sounds.”

SPRING HAS SPRUNG! MCB’s Spring Winds concert launched us into our 2026 concert season. This year, our members suggested music for the concert and other members selected the final program (all save one piece). It was a musical Springtime blossoming, planted, watered, and tended by MCB’s musicians to grow a sonic garden for our audience to enjoy.

Our program of symphonic concert band music opened the windows of imagination to let in the music on the breeze. The band’s performance bridged past and future, taking our audience from the oceans to the stars, from exile to victory, through history and fantasy and beyond time and space. There were glimpses of magic, romance, faith, love, struggle, and success—and a look ahead to the celebration of America’s 250th year as a nation.

We also honored the passing of longtime MCB member Robert Schwartz. We missed his physical presence, but we knew he was there just the same.

Thanks to all who took the time to come and “smell the flowers.” Spring now changes to Summer, and there is more music in store. We look forward to seeing you here and there along the way.

In memoriam: Robert Schwartz.

04/12/2026

Members and Friends of the Madison Community Band,

It is with profound sadness and loss that I share with you that Robert Schwartz has passed. After several long years battling cancer and the impacts from it and surrounded by his family, Robert went to be with Jesus at 10:43 this morning.

Robert loved this organization deeply and served as our treasurer for many years. He was an accomplished musician, and we were blessed to have him serve in our band. To me personally, Robert was a very close friend, and I shall miss him very much.

As details related to the funeral are provided, I will pass them along. I know you all join me in sharing this loss but ask that we continue to pray for his family and especially his wife Cindy.

Thank you,

Dave
