Are you ready to retire your ride for conservation? Well, we have great news: Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance now accepts donated vehicles through our Cars for Birds Program.

That’s right. Your old birding-mobile can keep helping birds long after its final road trip. We now accept donations of:
✅ Cars
✅ Trucks
✅ RVs
✅ Boats
✅ Motorcycles
✅ Running OR non-running vehicles

Whether your vehicle still has a few birding adventures left in it or can barely make it to the gas station, it can still make a difference for birds.

Help protect habitat for tomorrow and donate your car today.🌿

How do we define what nature *IS*, and where do humans fit into it?

On today's episode of QuACK, were Musing with Mickenzee! Our host flips the script by posing some questions to the listener, encouraging you to explore, ponder, and walk away with some new thoughts and ideas about the world around you.

Bogs give us a spring in our step! ✨
Our Faville Grove crew carefully demonstrates the bounciness of the sphagnum moss mat that covers the surface of the water at Hope Lake Bog. Ecosystems like these support an abundance of rare and specialized plants, so this property is closed to visitors to preserve its fragile nature. (Filmed by Soraya Castle/SoWBA)

As dusk falls, amazing aerial acro-BATS take to the skies 🦇🦇
Bats feed on flying insects, especially moths, and skim across Goose Pond to drink. Each night, after hunting for a couple of hours (during which time they may eat half their weight in insects!), they find a place to roost where they can rest and digest. (Filmed by Emma Raasch/SoWBA)

Come join us and our partners for a fun night of trivia as part of our bird-safe glass project fundraiser!

The event will begin with a short presentation on the project and end off with prizes for the top 3 participants! This event is free and open to anyone with a love for birds. It will be held this Thursday, May 28, 6:30pm at Delta Beer Lab near Fitchburg, WI.

The bird-safe glass project is a continuing series on the UW-Madison campus in collaboration with the Audubon Society UW-Madison, UW-Madison Office of Sustainability, Office of Sustainability Green Fund, Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance, and UW Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology. Data collected by the Bird Collision Corps is used to identify buildings impacting bird populations and support our advocacy for bird safe glass installation.

The Flockadelics soared again this week for the Great Wisconsin Birdathon!

This annual birdathon is run by Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin to raise funds for high-priority bird conservation projects across the state. Our team headed out this week for some birding at the incredibly gorgeous Schurch-Thomson Prairie (permanently protected by The Prairie Enthusiasts).

At the end of the day, Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance's team tallied 70 species of birds, including some great grassland bird surprises—did you catch that Henslow Sparrow song? (filmed by Kaitlin Svabek/SoWBA)

Two fantastic crews of ecological restoration interns have joined us for the summer! ☀️

Six interns will be at Faville Grove Sanctuary and two interns will be at Goose Pond Sanctuary, restoring and managing native habitat and learning crucial conservation techniques along the way.
