"What makes a Bald Eagle nest productive?"

That was the question Katherine Schuette sought to answer this summer while studying Bald Eagle Nest Watch data from 2018–2025. What she found was very interesting!

Productive eagle nests were located in areas with a greater percentage of open water, but they were *also* located in areas that had a greater percentage of developed open space (like parks and cemeteries). These data can help guide future conservation efforts, to ensure that Wisconsin's Bald Eagles can continue to thrive!

A great big thank you to all of the wonderful interns who joined us this summer!🌻
We had an awesome group of ecological restoration interns learning the art and science of stewardship at Faville Grove, Goose Pond, and Hillside Prairie; while our delightful Diversity in Conservation Intern worked on projects with each of our program teams all summer long. From removing invasive species and pollinating rare orchids to conducting species surveys and leading educational adventures for kids, they have made a real difference for southern Wisconsin's birds and habitats.

Slow down: salamander crossing! ⚠️
From late summer to early fall, eastern tiger salamanders migrate from aquatic breeding grounds to upland habitats where they overwinter. At Goose Pond Sanctuary, this means that they often travel across roads as they move from the pond to our restored prairies. Please slow down and drive carefully during and after summer rains!
